About the workshop

This Indo-Canadian Workshop is jointly organized by Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, INRS-ETEand Université Laval, Quebec, Canada at IIT Bombay Campus. The workshop entails to bring together researchers from India and Canada (Quebec) working on different aspects of management and valorization of industrial and agricultural wastes with the objective of ensuring a clean environment with lower carbon footprint. The perceived outcome of the workshopis to provide a common platform and facilitate academic interactions among expert scientists drawn from India and Canada.

Objectives

The specific objectives of the workshop are as follows:

  • Dissemination of technical and economic issues encountered in India and Canada with regard to management and value-addition of industrial and agricultural wastes;
  • Current state ofvalorisation research; and
  • Evolving future scientific strategies foreconomic and efficient management of industrial and agricultural wastes.

Who Should Attend

The workshop will benefit a wide array of people with diverse backgrounds including academicians and students, engineers and managerial staff from various private, public, government and non-profit organizations.

Main Thematic Areas

This one-day event will comprise a series of lectures covering the following major themes:

  • An overview on global waste management strategies
  • Role of LCA in waste management and decision making
  • Waste management in specific industries (e.g. tanneries and pulp mills)
  • Energy recovery opportunities from agricultural residues
  • Use of agricultural waste for producing enzymes for waste treatment

Experts from IIT Bombay,Environmental consultancy firms and Research institutes from India and Canada will deliver the lectures during the workshop.
