Project Environment

The system developed is intended as an aid in running long term projects by the insulation team of Darchem Thermal Protection. Staff would be expected to enter order and technical information to aid Customer Account Managers in the running of projects.

Objectives

The main objectives of this project are to produce a technical order database for the Insulation Team of Darchem Thermal Protection. The system will incorporate the current systems reducing the amount of duplication of information. The system will also give Customer Account Managers and designers historic data for future use.

Project Aims

The main aim of the project is to produce a searchable database to store enquiry, order and technical information accessible by the Insulation Team of Darchem Thermal Protection. The system will allow team members enter and update enquiry and order information and enter and track technical drawings and documents. Computer Aided Software Engineering tools and techniques will be used to design the system and produce the project documentation

Analysis Stage - A full system investigation will take place to determine the system requirements involving Insulation Team members. A proposed model will be formulated, agreed and documented.

Design Stage – Determine how the system requirements (analysis are to be met and achieved. Produce a design specification to produce the information necessary to produce the system.

Implementation Stage – Determine the system functions to be implemented in the time scale remaining. Build the relevant systems functions by coding tables, forms, queries and reports. Test individual components and complete the system by following a test plan. Produce and document relevant test plans and results.

Maintenance Stage – Produce maintenance documentation which covers user guides, Operation strategy for changeover from old to new, maintenance and future enhancements.

Academic Aim

To utilise the skills gained in HNC/D Computing (IT) modules. Modules Applications in IT, Systems Analysis, Database Development and Advanced Database Applications. Additional knowledge will be demonstrated gained through private learning.

Resources and Constraints

The choice of software and hardware is restricted will be restricted to that of the Darchem Thermal Protection Business Unit and reports will conform to Darchem Engineering Limited Company Standards.

Schedule

It is intended that all stages of this project will be completed within the set timescale of x weeks. The approximate schedule is – Analysis (2 weeks), Design (3 weeks) and Implementation (10 weeks). The documentation to be completed will be produced throughout the project. For more detailed schedule information see Project Schedule.
