PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CONTRACT

UPGRADING OF POTABLE WATER PUMP STATIONSIN KROONSTAD, STEYNSRUS AND VILJOENSKROONTO REPLACE SEVERAL PUMPS, VALVES AND MCC PANELS. THE PROJECT INCLUDES MINOR PIPE WORK ALTERATIONS AS WELL AS SOME BUILDING REFURBISHMENTS

DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SITE AND ACCESS

The construction sites are, 6 in Kroonstad, 2 in Steynsrus and 1 in Viljoenskroon.

DETAILS OF THE CONTRACT

The major scope of works included in this contract is:

KROONSTAD:

C1: VAN DER LINGEN STREET PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

CIVIL:

  • Alteration to layout of pump station to accommodate three (3) new pumps and motors. This includes relocating main incomer panel as well as MCC panel to the platform adjacent to the door.
  • Demolish old plinth where end suction pump is to be installed, if required to match new pump, remove and dispose of building rubble at site as indicated and construct new concrete plinth, including reinforcing, with steel or cast iron base frame as required to suit pumps and motors supplied.
  • Provide and install gantry for installation and maintenance purposes. Design to be done and signed off by structural engineer on behalf of tenderer.

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install one (1) split casing pumps, to deliver 60 ℓ/s @ a head of 38 m, complete with 30 kW energy efficient electric motors, running at 1450 RPM, with coupling guards. Motor size and impellor diameter to be indicated on pump curves to be submitted with tender. For the purpose of standardisation pumps tendered should match existing installation.
  • Supply and install one (1) split casing pumps, to deliver 75 ℓ/s @ a head of 38 m, complete with 40 kW energy efficient electric motors, running at 1450 RPM, with coupling guards. Motor size and impellor diameter to be indicated on pump curves to be submitted with tender. For the purpose of standardisation pumps tendered should match existing installation.
  • Supply and install one (1) 150 mm multi stage end suction pump and motor as backup to deliver 45 ℓ/s @ a head of 38 m complete with energy efficient electric motor and coupling guards. Motor to be sized according to manufacturer specs (Submit curves)

ELECTRICAL:

  • Supply and Install incomer MCC panel complete with incomer cubicle, main breaker and breaker for each pump. The panel should be of Star Delta type configured to suit the motor size and type and should include the following:

C1.1. MARAIS STREET PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

CIVIL:

  • Break out floor around pump control / non return valve.
  • Build new recess to accommodate new pump control / non return valve.
  • Install 50 mm drain pipe with screen from of delivery pipe channel to outside perimeter fence (± 4 m)

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install one (1) split casing pump, to deliver 175 ℓ/s @ a head of 75 m, complete with 185 kW energy efficient electric motors running at 1450 RPM. For the purpose of standardisation pumps tendered should match existing installation configuration with SDC 200/200 or CDC 200/200 pump replaced during 2017
  • Supply and fit 1 (one) 185 kW energy efficient electric motor only to match with pump No 1
  • Deliver the existing 185 kW electric motor to be removed to the municipal water treatment works as future standby unit.
  • Remove and refurbish existing Weir Uniglide SDC 200/200 pump (No 2) and motor and deliver to municipal water treatment works as a standby unit.

ELECTRICAL:

  • Check existing panel with soft starters and repair components requiring attention.

C1.2: KROONHEUWEL / MAOKENG PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

CIVIL:

  • Replace concrete anchor block around puddle pipe for No 1 pump outlet pipe.

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install three (3) split casing pumps, to deliver 175 ℓ/s @ a head of 45 m, complete with 110 kW energy efficient electric motors running at 1450 RPM. For the purpose of standardisation pumps tendered should match existing installation of 12 x 10 x 17 pumps.
  • Supply and install 2 (two) split casing pumps to replace existing Mather & Platt 150 x 100 multistage pumps, delivering 40 ℓ/s @ a head of 75 m, complete with 55 kW energy efficient motors running at 1450 RPM.

ELECTRICAL:

  • Supply and Install incomer MCC panel complete with incomer cubicle, main breaker and breaker for each pump. The panel should provide two Star Delta type starters for the 55 kW motors and three soft starters to suit the motor size and type

C1.3: KROONHEUWEL TOWER PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install (2) split casing pumps, to deliver 25 ℓ/s @ a head of 28 m, complete with 30 kW energy efficient electric motors running at 1450 RPM. (To replace existing 15 / 100 Griffin engineering split casing pump.)

ELECTRICAL:

  • Supply and Install incomer MCC panel complete with main breaker and breaker for each pump. The panel should provide two Star Delta type starters for the 30 kW motors or to suit the motor size and type tendered

C1.4: MAOKENG TOWER PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

MECHANICAL:

  • Remove and service/ refurbish existing KSB end suction pumps and re install.
  • Supply and install pressure gauges on both inlet and outlet sides of pumps.
  • ELECTRICAL:
  • Check and repair MMC panel by replacing defective components and adjust level control.

C1.5: LA PORTA VASE TOWER PUMP STATION (KROONSTAD):

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install one (1) end suction pump, similar to existing pump complete with 11 kW energy efficient electric motor to deliver 7.5 ℓ/s @ a head of 65 m.

ELECTRICAL:

  • Rewire MCC panel to accommodate both pumps.

BUILDING:

  • No work on building

STEYNSRUS:

C1.6: FOUCHE STREET PUMP STATION (STEYNSRUS):

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install (2) two end suction pumps to match existing installation with 65 mm suction and 50 mm delivery, to deliver 25 ℓ/s @ a head of 28 m complete with 5.5 kW energy efficient electric motors.

ELECTRICAL:

  • Supply and Install incomer MCC panel to accommodate both pumps. The panel should provide two Star Delta type starters for the 5.5 kW motors or to suit the motor size and type tendered

C1.7: MATLWANGTLWANG PUMP STATION (STEYNSRUS):

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install (2) two end suction pumps to match exiting installation configuration, to deliver 25 ℓ/s @ a head of 28 m complete with 5.5 kW energy efficient electric motors.

ELECTRICAL:

  • Supply and Install incomer MCC panel to accommodate both pumps. The panel should provide two Star Delta type starters for the 5.5 kW motors or to suit the motor size and type tendered

BUILDING:

  • Remove galvanised roof and replace 4 x 4 m purlins, replace galvanised sheeting.

VILJOENSKROON:

C1.8: VILJOENSKROON BOOSTER PUMP STATION (VILJOENSKROON):

MECHANICAL:

  • Supply and install (2) two end suction pumps to match existing installation configuration to deliver 25 ℓ/s @ a head of 25 m complete with 30 kW energy efficient electric motors.

GENERAL ITEMS:

MECHANICAL :

Relevant to all pumps and pipework:

  • Supply and install pressure gauges on both inlet and outlet sides of pumps.
  • Supply and install bleeding valves on pumps.
  • Supply and install pipe work to drain gland water out of pump station.
  • Replace existing inlet valve complete with hand wheel for each pump.
  • Replace existing outlet valve complete with hand wheel for each pump.
  • Supply and install wafer type soft closing diaphragm non-return valves in the delivery line for each pump or according to BOQ where specified differently.
  • Steel - Steel work, including pipe work, must be painted with Alcolin or Duram SN4 anti rust primer after being cleaned and sanded, followed by two (2) coats of polyurethane paint.
  • two coats of light blue enamel paint.

ELECTRICAL:

All new panels to be provided shall include the following:

  • Lockout contactor to cut power when cabinet is opened.
  • Volt meter in door of incomer panel to enable monitoring of supply voltage.
  • Over and under load protection.
  • Amp and hour meter mounted in the door of the panel for each motor.
  • Make provision for input for future telemetry control / automation.
  • No flow protection to trip pumps in case of loss of suction.
  • Start / Stop button for each pump.
  • E stop to be mounted adjacent to each motor.
  • Automated level control for start / stop of tower pumps.
  • All cabling between panel and motorshould be trailing cable (soft welding cable) and should be mounted in cable trays, or cut into concrete floor and covered with sand and a concrete screed. Cable sizes should be according to motor size.
  • Repairs to light installation in buildings.
  • Relocation of MCC panels at Van Der Lingen Street and Viljoenskroon reservoir p/s.

CIVIL:

As per relevant pump station

  • Minor concrete and brick work at Marais Street p/s
  • Supply and install gantry at Van Der Lingen Street p/s (beam length ±6.9 m
  • Pipe work and installation of valves

BUILDINGS:

  • Replacement of section of ceiling (±70 m2) at Kroonheuwel . Maokeng p/s.
  • Remove flaking paint from concrete ceiling and walls and prepare for painting by filling and sanding all cracks and treat as below:
  • Walls - To be primed with Permabond diluted 1:3, after being cleaned and sanded, followed by two (2) coats polyurethane or Eggshell Enamel paint due to the moist conditions.
  • Steel - Steel work, including pipe work, steel doors and stairs, must be painted with Alcolin or Duram SN4 anti rust primer after being cleaned and sanded, followed by two (2) coats of polyurethane paint Steel doors and stairs
  • Ceilings - To be primed with Permabond diluted 1:3, after being cleaned and sanded, followed by two (2) coats Eggshell Enamel paint due to the moist conditions.
  • Floors & Plinths - Apply two (2) coats of red epoxy paint after cleaning and degreasing existing floor.
  • Supply and install signage to identify pumps as well as all relevant signage to comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

COMMISSIONING AND HANDOVER:

  • Commission pumps and adjust overloads etc.
  • Provide operation and maintenance manuals for all equipment (in triplicate)
  • All MCC panels and electrical enclosures to be powder coated in “electric Orange”
  • Provide COC for panel and electrical works
  • Provide circuit diagrams for MCC panels. (In triplicate)
  • Provide signed guarantee documentation
  • Remove all existing equipment that was removed and deliver to water treatment works.
  • All curves indicating duty points and details for pumps tendered (impellor dia etc) to be attached to tender and supplied for scrutiny before installation.
  • All redundant equipment to be returned to Moqhaka Water treatment works in Kroonstad.
  • Work must be phased such that there is always one pump running in each pump station, where shutdowns have to be done this is to be coordinated with the water section managers.
  • All steel / cast iron baseplates to be cleaned primed as for steel work and re painted.
  • New pipe work to be Copon coated inside and out.
