Research activities

Data collection has been conducted parallel to the phases of the instructional design. Three major data collection

strategies used for this study are (1) mining of the information on the wiki pages created by the students,

(2) screen capture of a sample of interaction of students with the wiki platform, and (3) interview of selected

participants about their experience with using wiki.

A brief interview of about 5-10 minutes have been conducted regarding the students’ interaction with wiki. Sample questions include asking students about the features and functions of wiki that they found difficult to use and those that they found particularly useful for their collaborative group project work.

Data Analysis

The screen capture video and data capture from the wiki pages will be analyzed using NVivo 8.0. Multi-step coding have been done to establish themes, and concept mapping have been done to analyze the observed procedures and interactions. Upon identification of themes and codes, qualitative analysis have been followed by quantitative analysis of the themes and procedures using SPSS 17.0. Activity of input devices (mouse, keyboard), and actions (comments, revisions, added information, etc.) have been analyzed quantitatively. For all statistical tests, significance is set at p<0.05. Interview recordings have been transcribed and analyzed using NVivo 8.0.
