  1. Briefly describe your garden project including its major goals. Please include a description of activities. (150 words or less)

A vegetable garden (20’x20’) will be planted by kids (ages 5-12) attending Langdon day care in the summer of 2018. The major goals of this project are:

1. To learn the basics of gardening and growing fresh vegetables

2. To supply the day care kitchen with fresh vegetables and

3. To have fun outdoors

The garden will be raised on a piece of land in the Langdon public park located across the day care.

  1. How will your project make a difference to itschildren? (150 words or less)

Kids will get hands-on experience of gardening activities like planting, watering, weeding and harvesting. Along with physical activity, kids will learn the nutritional aspects of fresh vegetables and the health benefits of eating them. We will have fun activities of tasting vegetables and cooking them in the kitchen.

  1. How will your project make a difference in your community? (150 words or less)

This will be the 3rd year we are doing this project and has become very popular among kids. There was a huge positive response from the parents and grandparents of the children who participated in the junior master gardener projects in previous years. The kids were boasting about their gardening activities and their experiences with tasting the vegetables. Happy and healthier kids makes happy families and community.

  • Langdon area park committee- provide the land and prepare it for planting the garden.
  • Langdon day care staff- will help with gardening and teaching activities
  • Macine Lukach- will help with nutrition education
  • Master Gardeners- will help in gardening activities
