PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
GRENADA EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT PROJECT – PHASE ONE

The civil works component of the project will include the design, construction and supervision of:

  • a major retaining wall at the St. Joseph’s Convent, St. George
  • a new two-storey science Block at the Presentation Brothers College
  • a one-storey addition to the St. Joseph’s Convent St. Andrew, designed to accommodate a future second floor
  • a two-storey science block and a single-storey block at the Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School at Mt. Rose, St Patrick, along with major renovation of the existing buildings
  • a two-storey block at the J.W. Fletcher Catholic Secondary School in St. George
  • a two-storey science block atBishop’s College, in Carriacou, along with major upgrades to the existing plant

Other critical project components include the preparation of designs for:

  • The rebuilding and relocation ofSt. David’s Roman Catholic Secondary to La Sagesse in the parish of St. David. The new facilities will include 17 classrooms, 10 specialist spaces. The school will accommodate 510 students.
  • The rebuilding and relocation ofGrenada Christian Academy to Pearls, St. Andrew. It will serve 330 students in 11 classrooms and 10 specialist spaces.
  • The rebuilding of St. Andrew’s Anglican Primary School, which will have 16 classrooms and accommodate 480 students

The project will also provide furniture and equipment for the beneficiary schools for classrooms, administrative spaces and specialist rooms.

In addition, the project will provide widespread training for the education sector for:

  • 120 primary and secondary principals and deputy principals in school leadership, teacher development and instructional support;
  • 750 primary, 720 secondary teachers and 20 special needs teachers in remediation of literacy and numeracy deficiencies, differentiated instruction, integration of technology, gender sensitization, and core content areas;
  • 175 project school teachers, who will also receive orientation workshops in energy efficiency and disaster risk reduction;
  • 59 primary, secondary and special needs teachers to Bachelor’s degree level in pedagogy, specialist and core content areas;
  • 12 teacher educators across all areas of teacher professional development; and
  • 55 administrative/support staff of the Ministry’s staff in electronic registry management and archiving; customer service; technical writing; and use of technology.

In addition to the training above, there will also be a number of technical assistance programmes that will be implemented which are geared towards improving the efficiency of the sector. This will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Investigation of the possibilities for constructing TVET and Science facilities that could be shared by schools within close proximity;
  • Development of an Early Identification System (EIS) for Children at risk of educational and societal failure;
  • Identification of the systems and capacity required to strengthen leadership of the sector;
  • Leadership and effectiveness training for teachers;
  • Development of a template for assessing the climate vulnerability of schools; and
  • Review of the effectiveness of the relationships between the state andassisted private schools.
