Job Title: / Programme Manager

Purpose of the Job: / To manage Feed the Minds’ growing portfolio of international projects
Terms and Conditions / Full time: 35 hours per week, full terms and conditions in contract

Programme specific

  • Manage a portfolio of projects of over £200,000 ensuring that targets are met and expenditure remains within budget.
  • Maintain regular contact with implementing partners and provide support in relation to planning, implementation and monitoring of activities.
  • Review narrative and financial reports from partners, identify issues or discrepancies and ensure these are followed up and addressed.
  • Carry out field visits to assess progress on implementation and provide advice and capacity building support.
  • Prepare annual narrative and financial reports for funding agencies.
  • Work with members of the Senior Management Team to meet grant compliance requirements and highlight issues of particular concern relating to projects.
  • Commission external consultants as required for projects within the portfolio. Review draft reports and/or other outputs produced by commissioned consultants.
  • Work in collaboration with Feed the Minds’ Fundraising and Communications team to maximise fundraising and communications opportunities.
  • Give guidance and support to Feed the Minds’ smaller scale projects as needed.
  • Identify and share lessons learned from projects with the wider organisation and contribute to cross-organisational learning including online partner resources.

Organisation specific

  • Maintain awareness of best practice in project thematic areas and in adult education, especially literacy and numeracy.
  • Provide support to other members of the programme teamas required.
  • Ensure all activities are in line with the organisation’s vision, mission and values and agreed procedures.
  • Undertake any other activities required by the Director or Programme Director of Feed the Minds, as appropriate.
  • Represent FTM as required or as delegated by the Director / Programme Director, both in the UK and overseas.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Educated to degree level in international development or a related discipline. / Educated to Masters level in international development or a related discipline.
In-depth understanding of the key principles of international development. / Experience of working in a development context overseas.
At least 3 years’ experience of managing projects in international development with budgets of over £200,000.
Experience of writing high quality narrative and financial reports for funding agencies on projects with budgets over £200,000.
Financial management and IT skills – experienced user of Excel for financial monitoring and reporting. / Experience of using a data/knowledge management system for project management.
Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to achieve results in collaboration with partners from a range of backgrounds. / Experience of working directly with community based organisationsand/or faith-based organisations overseas.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload.
Ability to work as part of a team as well as take responsibility for own tasks and work on own initiative. / Experience of supporting volunteers or interns.
Willingness to travel overseas for periods of between 1 – 3 weeksunder basic conditions.
Understanding of and commitment to, the ecumenical Christian ethos of Feed the Minds.
