Bristol Film and Video Society

The Society aims to help all who use film or video as a means of personal expression. Constructive criticism is encouraged and beginners are especially welcome to come along to one or two meetings without any obligation to join.
Members may bring guests to any meeting. Bona Fide members of other similar clubs are welcome to visit.
Please note that visiting speakers may need to change dates at short notice - it is best to confirm if you intend to travel far for a specific meeting. /

Mar 15th : Phil Palmer - Rowland Systems Group Sound Recording Products and how to get the best results from them! You may like to bring along your own Roland or Edirol gear to show other members, and discuss how you are using it

Apr 5th Peter Davies from the BBC Wildlife Unit As a Dubbing Mixer Peter will show how the BBC produced “Polar Bear - Spy on the Ice"

.Apr 19th : Mini Epic Preparation We will split into groups to plan to film a script provided by BAFTA award winning editor, Don Fairservice. These will be shown and reviewed by Don on November 1st.

May 3rd : John Penny A return visit from a local historian who will show us more films from Bristol.

May 17th : NO MEETING–Filton Town Council wish to use the club room tonight.

Jun 7th :Alex Hansen Freelance Camerman - Alex will bring along two professinal cameras and describe some of the work he has done over the past 5 years

Jun 21st : Mini Epic Filming One Group will use the meeting room to shoot their mini epic film, whilst others shoot elsewhere.

July 19th : The Golden Unicorn Film Unit - We have recently added all the films made by this internationally acclaimed, award winning group into our archive. Mike George will show us a selection of some of their best productions..

Aug 2nd : Gareth Macleavy on Post War Italian Films and what we can learn from them. Diana Taylor - new club member Diane will show some of her films (provisional)

Aug 16th Julian Baldwin Presents – our competition secretary will show some films from other clubs.

Sept 6th : Declan Smith - File Structures - What's the difference? Declan will talk about his new Canon 7D DSLR. Technical Questions on other subjects welcome!

Sept 20th : ‘The Language of Film’–How Directors communicate with and without dialogue. A talk by Allan Phillipson.

Oct 4th : The BFVS Premiere of "Uncertain Proof" – This "epic" film of 3 years in the making will be shown to club members followed by how it was made.

Oct 18th : Annual Trophy Competition – Any Subject, no limit in duration (but we reserve the right to show an extract) this can be a group or an individual entry. PRIZE £50. Full competition rules on the website.

Nov 1st: Mini Epic – The Results - BAFTA award winning editor, Don Fairservice will review the results of our efforts from earlier in the year.

Nov 15th : David Knowles and Declan Smith - AdobeCS5 Creative Suite. The system and the possibilities - a live demo by D Knowles and D Smith"

Dec 6th : Christmas Social This year’s Christmas Social includes a Magic Lantern Show.
