Programme Manager role under the ADEPT programme grant

More details about the role

This collaborative project was developed from our previous work on electrodeposition from non-aqueous solvents including liquid and supercritical electrolyte systems. The intention is to produce working demonstrator devices for a range of semiconductor applications and hence our team has a broad range ofactivitiesled by the investigators as follows:

  • Gill Reid, Southampton Chemistry: Electrodeposition precursors and designed electrolytes
  • Andrew Hector, Southampton Chemistry: Aligned porous templates for electrodeposition and materials characterisation
  • Mike George, Nottingham Chemistry: Behaviour of fluids in pores
  • Phil Bartlett (PI), Southampton Chemistry: Electrodeposition of the semiconductors
  • Richard Beanland, Warwick Physics: Transmission electron microscopy
  • David Smith, Southampton Physics: Reactor design/build and functional characterisation
  • Kees de Groot, Southampton Electronics and Computer Science: Fabrication and functional characterisation

When fully up and running the project will comprise the 7 Investigators, 11 PDRAs and around 11 PhD students. The Programme Manager will be expected to support the PI and Co-Is in the day-today management and coordination of this large multidisciplinary activity.

The programme manager will bedirectly involved in supporting the day-to-day research activity on the project, in industrial outreach for the project and in organising and delivering outreach activities to the general public. They will be responsible for organising and facilitating research meetings, both physical and virtual, between researchers on the project, documenting meetings, putting in place systems to track progress and curate research results and will assist the PI an administration of the project, in monitoring budgets, and in coordinating activities. They will be responsible for creation and upkeep of the project web-site and social media outputs aimed at communication both with potential industrial partners and with the general public and schools and responsible for production of project promotional material. The Programme Manager will be expected to be involved in industrial engagement activities, including representing the project at trade shows and in development of IP protection and exploitation. They will also be responsible, with the PI and Co-Is in developing and delivering an effective scientific outreach program to schools and the general public, including the delivery of at least one major outreach activity over the course of the grant.

These requirements are broad and challenging. We don’t expect candidates to be experienced in all areas. However, a commitment to develop new skillsin order to contribute to a broad range of these activities will be essential in the successful appointee. Equally it is clear that successful interactions between the Programme Manager and all the other members of the team will be critical.

Interview arrangements

At interview we would like you to introduce some relevant aspects of your experience in a short presentation. Using the furtherinformation above (which we recognise is still quite limited), we would like you to describe what you feel you can most strongly contribute based on your current skills, supporting this with specific examples from your previousexperience. Please be ready to spend the first 5-10 minutes describing these aspects. If you feel it is helpful to prepare some slides to talk to these can be sent in advance as a Powerpoint or PDF file.
