Program Requirements Checklist

The following requirements must be met to complete the Leadership Academy. Uponcompletion of the requirements, submit this signed checklist to the Leadership Academy coordinator.

Attend Leadership Academy Seminars: whether taken for credit or not, you are requiredto attend the seminars throughout the year.

Mentor Meetings: You will meet with your mentor at least one time per month.

Complete a Leadership Development Self-Assessment: All participating students willcomplete a self-assessment as described in another section of this manual.

Create a Personal Development Plan: The Personal Development Plan (PDP) willinclude self-improvement goals and strategies for meeting those goals.

Attend Mentor/Mentee Social: In the fall term the Leadership Academy will host an informal social to introduce the leadership academy cohort to the mentor group in order to share updates and progress of the academy. You are expected to attend this social along with your respective mentor. You will practice networking skills that you have learned and developed from the academy experiences.

Primary Experience: maintain an active role in a community organization: You areexpected to be an active participant and contribute to the goals of at least one off-campus,non-university, community group for at least two quarters. You may continue an activity youare already involved in, but your role must change to fulfill this requirement (i.e., become anofficer, develop/plan a new activity or contribute to the goals of the group in other new,significant ways).

Secondary Experience: participate in two additional group experiences: You mayselect two additional groups from any two of the following categories – communityinvolvement, career development, campus involvement. You may continue an activity youare already involved in, but your role must change to fulfill this requirement. You do notneed to have an official leadership role in these groups, but you should be engaged andseeking opportunities to apply the concepts discussed in the seminar, coursework, andmentor meetings. You should be involved in these groups for a minimum of two terms.

Participate in Leadership Programs and Workshops: You will participate in oneleadership program or workshop per term, either on or off campus.

Complete 1 Academic Course Offering (3 credits): The course you take to fulfill thisrequirement must help you meet your leadership development goals and be approved byboth your mentor and the director of the Leadership Academy.

Capstone Project: You will complete a capstone project that documents your personalgrowth throughout the program and “unpacks” your Leadership Academy experience.

Program Completion Ceremony: Each spring term the Leadership Academy will host aceremony to honor students who have participated in the program and to showcase theirgrowth as leaders. Attending this ceremony is the final requirement for fellows to completethe Leadership Academy.
