Course Overview:

This course is an introduction to the foreign trade of China. The course will mainly examine the following subjects: (i) Overview of Chinese Foreign Trade; (ii) Chinese merchandise Trade; (iii) Chinese Foreign Trade in commercial services; (iv) The Effect of Chinese Foreign Trade Policy; (v) The Relationship between Foreign Trade and Economic Development; (vi) FDI, processing and assembling trade; (vii) What promotes China’s trade surplus; (viii) To reduce trade frictions; (ix) China’s trade deficits with other economies.

There are many interesting topics discussed in this course, such as: the structure of China's trade; trade frictions between China and its main export markets; China's deficit on trade in services; China’s comparative advantage and competitive advantage; RMB’s exchange rate and China’s trade surplus; China as “world factory”; encouraging the U.S. and EU to export more high-tech products to China; China’s exports of high-tech and high value-added products.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, students should be able to:

*explain the development of China’s foreign trade, and problems of China’s foreign trade in nowadays.

*analyserelation between China’s economy and other countries and the role of international trade.

*explain relation among China’s foreign trade, international investment and world economy.

*explain relation among China’s foreign trade, FTA and world trade system.

*analyse structure and characteristics of China’s foreign trade

*analyse relation between international trade and world economy of nowadays.

Evaluation Criteria and Grading:

Your final grade of the course will be based on the following components:

Assignments /Homeworks/Chapter Quizzes /attendance10%

Mid- term tests 30%

Final Exam 50%

Term Tests and Final Exam:

Chapter Quizzes will be held in class.

The midterm test is a presentation.

Final Exam is an academic paper with discussion among students.
