2014-2015 K-12 Online Professional Learning Opportunities for Mathematics

Ontario educators are invited to participate in online professional learning through Adobe Connect.

Fivedifferent series are being offered and the details are as below.Participants are required to attend all four sessions offered in a series.

Supporting Students with Learning Disabilities in Mathematics

Intended audience:
School based teams consisting of classroom educatorsand at least one special education teacher
Team participation is encouraged but not required. / Participants will:

deepen their understanding of profiles of students with learning disabilities
examine the cognitive processes defined in IEPs through a mathematics lens
experience through simulations, the struggles students with learning disabilities face when learning mathematics
investigate instructional and assessment strategies that leverage student strengths and support student needs.

Participants are invited to bring a sample IEP for an anonymous student with a learning disability to each session. / Series A

develop mathematical knowledge of proportional reasoning,
deepen the knowledge of teaching proportional reasoning
investigate the K-12 perspective for proportional reasoning
examine components from the document Paying Attention to Proportional Reasoning: K-12, such as multiplicative thinking, unitizing, and proportional vs. non proportional situations.

Registration:Team participation (at least 3 members) is encouraged but not required.Each session will include time for team discussion.

Type the series identification in the subject line of the email. (i.e. Series A, Series B, Series C or Series Dor Series E)
A separate form must be completed and emailed for each series’ registration.

Registration due date: Enrolment is limited

Series B, C, D and E: Please register by October 6, 2014
Series A: Please register by January 25, 2015

Additional details, including the URL required to access these Adobe Connect sessions, will be provided in a separate confirmation e-mail.

Equipment:A computer with high speed internet (preferably hard wired)

Individual registrations will also need a headset with an attached microphone.

Participants registering in teams will also require speakers, a microphone and a means of sharing the computer screen.
