Professional Development Request

Who: Individual staff, small groups, teams, entire school staff, and/or principal

Why: This form is submitted to request professional development from the Department of Educational Services

Examples of Support: Staff from the Department of Educational Services can assist you/your school in a variety of ways. Examples include but are not limited to the following:

1.  Instruction and Assessment

§  Share best practices in teaching students, who are ELL and/or have a disability, in inclusive environments

§  Observe lessons and give feedback

§  Provide ideas for student groupings to facilitate second language acquisition

§  Use of standards to write IEP and evaluations (e.g. PLAAFP, Goals)

§  Use of progress monitoring techniques

§  Assist with developing a variety of strategies to address a specific student need

§  Increase knowledge/skills in use of instructional software (i.e., RWG, Inspirations, Co-writer, etc.)

§  Assist with assessment procedures (i.e., English proficiency, allowable accommodations, assistive technology)

2.  Curriculum and Resource Materials

§  Suggest effective materials that support standard-based curriculum and meet the needs of students with disabilities and ELLs

§  Increase knowledge/skills in alternative/differentiated curriculum development

§  Provide support related to culturally-responsive teaching practices

3.  Service Delivery

§  Create school-wide structures to support inclusive educational practices

§  Assist with classroom placement decisions and configuration

§  Suggest ways to structure support in the classroom (BRT, ESL teachers, BRS, CC, S/L, OT, PT, staff, SEAs, etc.)

§  Enhance skills for building relationships with parents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

4.  Professional Development

§  Assist with bilingual program development

§  Use data to inform SIPS

§  Assist teams in creating co-teaching/collaboration/communication structures

§  Development of SSITs

§  Develop response to intervention strategies

§  Implementation of SIMS

§  Increase knowledge/skills as part of your Professional Development Plan for license renewal

§  Increase understanding of the IEP evaluation/programming/placement process

§  Increase skills in facilitating effective meetings

§  Increase understanding of the eIDEA system and GUI-Special Education Student Management system for Principals

§  Increase knowledge/skills in the use of positive behavioral supports

§  Provide support around managing threatening confrontations

§  Assist with functional behavior assessments and development of behavior intervention plans

Action Required by School:

§  School/district staff complete the Professional Development form available on the Department of Educational Services intranet (dww) web page

§  The form is signed by principal/administrator

§  The staff member submits the form to the Department of Educational Services, attention Theresa Grueneberg via school mail, as an attachment to e-mail, or fax (204-0349)

Action Required by Department of Educational Services:

§  The request is logged and processed for assignment

§  The staff person(s) assigned to the request will contact the requestor to meet and discuss the request

§  The individual making the request and the assigned staff will develop an action plan

§  Implementation of the action plan

§  An action plan summary will be provided to the requestor and appropriate administrator on completion of the professional development

§  A brief follow-up survey may be sent to the individual making the request via GroupWise upon completion of the professional development to obtain input relative to effectiveness of support
