CHIEF OF POLICE

The Village of La Grange Park Illinois, resident population of 13,500, a full service community of about 2.25 square miles located in western Cook County, approximately 16 miles from Chicago’s loop, seeks experienced police professionals as candidates to lead the La Grange Park Police Department. The current Chief of Police is retiring after 43 years as a police officer, 18 of which as the Chief in La Grange Park. The Police Department has a compliment of 27 full-time employees consisting of a Chief, Deputy Chief, Commander, 4 Sergeants, 14 Police Officers, and 2 Records Clerks. The Police Department operates its own telecommunications center that provides enhanced 911 services with four full-time telecommunicators and annually responds to approximately 7,000 calls for service. The department also employs 4 Auxiliary Police Officers. The La Grange Park Police Department is noted for community-oriented policing, operating a Residential Foot Patrol Program and an “Adopt-A-Cop” Program with the schools. Police Officers also provide support for a Neighborhood Watch Program and arrange special talks on crime prevention, drug education, consumer fraud and other topics as requested by Village residents, service clubs, churches and school groups. The Police Officers are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police.

La Grange Park, which is primarily residential in nature, is known for its excellent schools and considerable recreational park land, supports more than 100 businesses including service and retail businesses, banking institutions, restaurants and professional offices. In addition to its 24 acres of park land, La Grange Park is bordered on its west and north sides by the Cook County Forest Preserve, on the east by the Village of Brookfield and on the south by the Village of La Grange.

Candidates must be committed to training, professional development and community engagement. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree a related field; a master’s degree is a plus. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a law enforcement leadership position with municipal experience strongly preferred.

Candidates must possess well developed interpersonal communication and public presentation skills and be a person of utmost integrity. The Chief of Police is appointed by the Village Manager with the advice and consent of the Village President and Board of Trustees. The starting annual salary is +/- $110,000 DOQ.
