The Board’s purpose

To protect the health and safety of members of the public by providing for mechanisms to ensure that Psychotherapists are

competent and fit to practise their professions.

Date:October 2016

Reporting to: The Board’s Registrar

Functional relationships: Registrar, Qualifications Committee, the Board.

Commitment:up to 8 hours per qualification assessment.

Note:Work flow cannot be predicted. As much notice as possible will be given by the Registrar or Registration Officer, and communication will be ongoing.

Remuneration: $80.00 per hour.

Positionpurpose

To contribute to the Board’s principal purpose of protecting the health and safety of members of the public by:

  • assessing overseas applications for registration[1];
  • assessing return to practice applications as per Board policy;
  • assessing supervisor approval requests as per Board policy; and
  • assessing request for extensions to the Interim Psychotherapist Scope of Practice on a case by case basis.

Requirements

  • a masters-level qualification or equivalent in psychotherapy;
  • a psychotherapist in the Psychotherapist Scope of Practice or Psychotherapist Scope of Practice with Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Specialism;
  • current AnnualPractising Certificate, with no conditions; and
  • personal computer, access to the internet and the required tools to undertake the role.

Experience

  • a minimum of 10 years post-qualification psychotherapy experience;
  • a minimum of 5 years experience providing clinical supervision; and
  • knowledge of psychotherapy training, including assessment processes.

Professional Advisorswill be required to develop

  • knowledge of the role, functions and purposeof the Board;
  • knowledge of Board policies and standards; and
  • knowledge of the HPCAA and other relevant legislation.

Responsibilities / Tasks / Expected outcomes
Assessment of overseas
applications for registration. /
  • Assess qualifications of overseas applications for: comparability to Board-approved qualifications and in line with the Board’s ‘Policy criteria expected for comparable qualifications’; make recommendations to the Board’s Qualifications Committee.
  • Advise the Board on any changes that may be required to the ‘Policy criteria expected for comparable qualifications’, as may be appropriate.
  • Advise the Board of changes to overseas qualifications and how these may affect entry into the profession in New Zealand
  • Identify and report on trends and themes in applications from overseas applications

  • Qualifications are appropriately assessed
