MIX

SYNOPSIS

Mix is the combination of Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker’s two first shows: Vulcão and Velox. It was specially conceived for the Biennale de La Danse de Lyon in 1996. MIX combines the feelings from Passion, the irony and elegance from Fashion Show, with the study of the principles of movement begun in Machines. This is further developed in the next act in Mechanics and Sonar, followed by the confusion of gestures and movements in Quotidian, and the spectacular vertical ballet of the last section, Mountaineering.

For her choreography of MIX, Deborah Colker won the prestigious 2001 Laurence Olivier Award for “Outstanding Achievement in Dance”.

ABOUT COMPANHIA DE DANÇA DEBORAH COLKER

Deborah Colker established her dance company in 1994, presenting Vulcão, at the Rio de Janeiro City Opera.
By 1995, the company had established a space in downtown Rio de Janeiro, where Deborah Colker and her group testes their limits in their search for a distinct language.
Her works - the result of aesthetic questioning, marries physically audacious movements with high-concept design. Velox, created in 1995, features a huge and colorful climbing wall rigged with stepping treads. In Rota, the dominant image is that of a 22 foot-high, 1.5 tonne wheel, framed by ladders. Casa spotlights body architecture in the domestic context of a split-house, while her material for the movements is derived from universally familiar activities. In her recent production, 4 por 4, Colker moves deftly to the “sensual and gentle” world of the plastic arts. Her dancers interact with, and elaborate upon, the works of four Brazilian plastic artists.

Since 1996, her company of 18 dancers has presented six full-length performances in many countries, including the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Singapore, Argentina, Colombia, Portugal, Ireland, New Zealand and China.
