Playing Pattern “Go Fish”
Get in a group of 3 or 4 players.
Combine all players’ cards and shuffle them together.
Deal 5 cards to each player.
Place the remaining cards in a face down pile between the players.
Before starting the game, each player should put together the pairs that they have in their hand and place it in front of them.
A pair is made by pairing the pattern on one card with another card that has the next two terms in sequence.
Note: Because the cards are a combination of the cards the players made, there might be some repeated pairs. The cards do not have to be made by the same person to be a match.
Start with the youngest player and take turns moving clockwise. For each turn:
- Look at the cards in your hand.
- Decide which pair you want to make.
- If you have the pattern card you will ask for the card with the next to terms in the sequence. For example if you have a card with ●■● you will ask, “Do you have a card with a ■●?
- If you have the next two terms in the sequence you will ask for the pattern card. For example if you have a 12,15 card you would ask “Do you have a card with 3, 6, 9 on it?
- Ask one opponent your question.
- If the opponent has the card they must give it to the player.
- The player puts the matched pair down in front of them.
- If the opponent does not have the card they say “Go Fish!”
- The player must pick up one card from the face down pile and add it to their hand
- If the drawn card makes a pair, the player puts the pair down in front of them.
The next player takes a turn.
If a player runs out of cards, pick up 3 cards from the face down pile between the players.
Play until all the cards are matched.
The winner is the player who has earned the most pairs.
