Product Description:ORGANIC YELLOW ONIONS

RAW MATERIALS

Quality Requirements: / Onions should be certified USDA Organic. Beyond that, the following points should be particularly noted. All onions must be free of dirt or other extraneous matter. They should show no visible scarring, pitting, bug damage or decay of any kind on the surface of the product. No double growth or re-growth.
Brands / Varieties: / As approved by the SuperValu buying office. .
Maturity / Conditions: / The onions should be mature, meaning well cored, firm and in a dry condition. With no excessive skinning or excessive loose peel. Good skin set.
Size: Minimum 7 ounces
Maximum 12 ounces
Tolerance: / In a random sampling of 5 cases, no more than 6 onions should be found out of specification. This could be defined as not more than a 5% tolerance for combined defects. No tolerance for decay or black speckling on the skin. 10 % tolerance for size.
Shape / Condition: / The onions should be mature, with a smooth uniform shape characteristic of the variety. It should be a yellow/gold color.
Taste Texture: / The taste should be characteristic of the variety with no foreign taste or odors that would indicate any contamination.

Container Type: / Box or Bag
Weight: / Per P.O. with onions ranging in weight from 7 to 12 ounces.
Pack size / Condition: / Per P.O.

PALLETIZATION

All product must be received on a 40” x 48” four way, hard wood pallet. Each pallet should contain 42 cases within the dimensions of the pallet. The “tie” would be 7 cases per layer and the “high” would be no more than 6 cases.

COLD CHAIN

All onions should be pre-cooled to 55° prior to dispatch and delivered in a temperature controlled vehicle. The pulp temperature on receipt at the distribution center should not be less than 45° or more than 55° with an optimum of 52°. 50° for storage October to March; 55° to 65° in the Spring. Summer will have higher temperatures as cooling onions in the heat creates mold

PRODUCT LIFE:

Product should give at least 21 days life upon receipt at the SuperValu distribution facility.

IMPORTANT:

IF A FEDERAL INSPECTION IS REQUIRED FOR ANY REJECTED LOAD, IT WILL BE THE SHIPPERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL FOR THE FEDERAL INSPECTION. IN THE EVENT, THE DISPUTED LOT PASSES THE FEDERAL INSPECTION TO MEET THE ABOVE SEPCIFICATIONS, SUPERVALU AGREES TO ACCEPT THE DISPUTED LOT.

DETAILS ON THE SPECIFICATION MUST NOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH THE SUPERVALU, INC. BUYING OFFICE.

AT NO TIME SHOULD ANY OF THE SUPERVALU, INC. PRODUCT OR PACKAGING SPECIFICATIONS BE DISCUSSED WITH ANY OF INDUSTRY PEOPLE UNLESS SO AUTHORIZED BY THE SUPERVALU’S PRODUCE BUYING OFFICE. FAILURE TO RESPECT THE CONFIDENTIAL NATURE OF THE PRODUCT OR PACKAGING WILL JEOPARDIZE YOUR POSITION AS A SUPERVALU SUPPLIER. ALL ORDERS PLACED BY THE BUYING OFFICE SHALL BE DELIVERED AS DETAILED.
