OVERVIEW
SCBA equipment provides the wearer with respiratory protection in hazardous environments and will be used for entrance into IDLH atmospheres. Currently the refinery uses three models all which are Survivaire Brand, the Mark 2, the Panther, and the Panther with HUD(heads up display). The Panther with HUD is only currently used by the ERT.
NOTE: The Panther with HUD will only fit a Panther mask with HUD, however a regular Panther pack without HUD will fit a Panther mask with HUD.

1.0 Remove unit from holder, case or cabinet / __1.1 Check cylinder pressure on cylinder gauge before donning the SCBA. Recommended pressure should be between 3500# and 4500#.__1.2 Turn cylinder valve counter-clockwise to full-open.
__1.3 After system has pressured up listen for leaks. Any leaks should be audibly noticible.
2.0 Place SCBA on back using one of two techniques / WARNING
Air pack weighs approximately 30 lbs. When using Over-the-Head method, muscle strain or injury is possible.
CAUTION
Using the Over-the-Head Technique, be sure there is no one behind you so that the pack does not strike them.
__2.1 Over-the-Head Technique
· With back plate facing you and the cylinder valve in the up position, grasp the cylinder with your hands inside the shoulder straps.
· Raise pack over head.
· Slide onto back.
__2.2 Coat Technique
· Grasp pack with valve in down position.
· Insert arm through strap.
· Slide pack around body onto back.
· Insert other arm into open strap.
3.0 Secure chest strap / __3.1 Secure chest strap (if available) MARK 2 only and tighten .
4.0 Adjust side straps / __4.1 Adjust side straps so that unit rests on hips and follows contour of back. It may help to lean slightly forward when tightening the straps.
5.0 Secure waist belt / __5.1 Secure waist belt and tighten.
6.0 Place mask lanyard around neck / __6.1 Remove mask from protective plastic bag.
__6.2 Place mask lanyard (where available) over head, around neck.
7.0 Donning face mask / NOTE: If Nomex hood is worn, slide hood back before donning face mask.
__7.1 Place face piece on face chin first. Pull straps over the head and secure mask by pulling back on straps from chin to top of head.
__7.2 Place hand over end of hose (MARK 2) or regulator dock flange (on Panther) while inhaling slightly to check mask seal for leakage. Good seal is achieved by collapsing mask towards face.
NOTE: If a good seal is not achieved, reposition and secure mask again until a good seal is obtained.
8.0 Attach breathing hose / __8.1 Mark 2 Model
Attach breathing hose by inserting “red” hose connection into regulator outlet, turning the connector clockwise to stop (approximately 1/4 turn) into locked position.
Panther Model
Snap the face piece mounted regulator into the front of the mask.
__8.2 Breathe normally.
__8.3 Verify that bypass is functioning by opening and closing.
Mark 2 Model – the large red ring on the regulator is the bypass.
Panther – the small red knob on the face piece regulator is the bypass.
9.0 Doffing SCBA / __9.1 Mark 2 Model
Detach breathing hose by turning “red” hose connection counter-clockwise (approximately 1/4 turn) out of regulator outlet.
Panther Model
Remove face piece regulator by depressing the two blue buttons. Press the black reset button to stop air flow.
__9.2 Loosen straps on face mask from top of head to chin and pull straps off head. Remove face piece. Pull all straps all the way out.
__9.3 Loosen all straps on back pack: waist belt, side straps and chest strap. Pull all straps all the way out.
__9.4 Remove SCBA from back by lowering slowly.
__9.5 Pull cylinder valve locking mechanism and turn cylinder valve clockwise to close.
__9.6 Depressure system by cracking open the bypass on the regulator.
__9.7 Clean unit per manufacturer’s guidelines.
__9.8 Replace cylinder.
__9.9 After cleaning mask, place back in protective plastic bag.
__9.10 record cylinder data in tracking record system
__9.11 Place unit back into it holder, case, or cabinet so it ready for use.
