AARP

What: Assist tax filers with their taxes at free clinics.

When: Training is in late December and early January for the upcoming tax season. Training is held at Lane Community College. Location of the tax clinics varies. Volunteers must make a one-day a week commitment during tax season.

Additional Info: This opportunity open to all law students and requires training. AARP also needs Client Facilitators who help clients fill out intake forms and prepare for visits. This option requires 2-3 hours of training in mid-January.

Access the Law

What: Intake for monthly legal clinic for veterans.

When: Fridays before the last Wednesday of the month, 1:00-3:00 or 3:30 p.m.

Where: Access the Law, Annex Office 319 West 13th Ave. (245 West 13th Avenue - Main Office)

Additional Info: This opportunity is open to all law students. There is also an opportunity for interested law students to present legal education programs that Access the Law has created. Presentations would be occasional and in the evening.

Lane County Legal Aid—Monthly Clinic

What: Intake for monthly clinic for low-income clients.

When: Monday, Wednesday, or Fridays, 1-3 p.m. (sometimes this time runs over to between 3-4 p.m.)

Lane County Legal Aid—Senior Law Service

What: intake interviews for volunteer attorney on duty, sit with the volunteer and observe if the client approves, or assist handling a case under the supervision of a volunteer attorney.

Second Chance

What: Teach Renters’ Rights classes (Fair Housing, Landlord/Tenant Law, Landlord Presentation, and Conflict Resolution) with other law students. These classes are offered through St. Vincent de Paul’s 8-week cycle course, Second Chance Renter Rehabilitation.

When: Classes are in the evening, but dates vary. Law students teach the law-related sessions in an 8-week class cycle.

Additional Information: available to all law students. Volunteers train for this opportunity by sitting in on the classes prior to teaching the classes. Training hours can count towards pro bono. All law students, regardless of experience, are welcome. We are looking for a new student coordinator of this program!

Sponsors

What: Intake for monthly legal clinic for Sponsors clients and community referrals. Sponsors provides community reentry services for individuals released from Oregon jails and prisons.

When: Clinic is the first Friday of every month, 2-4 p.m. Note that in September, the clinic will be the second Friday because of the Labor Day weekend.
