Re; Grey Williams,

Teacher of the year committee,

It is with great pleasure that I may write in support of Grey Williams for Teacher of the Year in the Loudon County School District.

Upon arriving at Greenback in the summer of 2013 it became very obvious that Grey was a team player and championed our students and our school. Almost immediately, Grey made himself available to me, offering me insights to the Greenback history, showing me around, and just demonstrating a general willingness to work toward a common goal of academic excellence at Greenback.

As we began the process to develop a master schedule for the coming school year, we needed some teachers to be willing to step outside their comfort zone and teach some classes in collaboration with the core curriculum. Grey stepped up!! Grey develop a team teaching class with his middle school students and their science teacher. Though he had no experience in doing such, Grey and the science teacher worked closely in developing a program of study that was challenging and relative.

This year, as we began to focus on more reading and writing, Grey eagerly applied training he had received in his classroom studies. Grey has embraced the writing and requires his student to write in the POW TIDE format, thus supporting the core curriculum.

Grey has also volunteered to oversee our afternoon bus and car lines. Being a school that is PrK-12, afternoon pickup creates some challenges in protecting our students in the bus and car rider line. Grey’s willingness to volunteer has allowed us to create a consistent way of doing our business in the afternoons. Kids and parents feel much safer during this chaotic time of day.

Lastly, I ask Grey to take over the oversight of our school’s maintenance needs. Again, this is a non-paying position, but Grey has a willingness to serve our school in any way needed. Grey’s knowledge of maintenance repair processes, paired with his ability to work and communicate with Brian Brown, his relationship with Mr. Brown’s maintenance crew, and his ability to talk in sub contactor language, has allowed us to maintain our beautiful building.

Grey does all of this while mentoring a new vocational teacher and being an active member of his TPEG group.

In my book, Grey is the easy choice for the Teacher of the Year Award.
