Principal’s Report – P & C Meeting

Monday 9th October 2017

  • Thank you to everybody for the support during my first Term at Toogoolawah State School.

School Operations

  • Moderation occurring next week during our student free day.
  • Priority school review feedback received and uploaded onto school webpage. Jon met with Graeme Lacey and Debbie Hailes (Assistant Regional Directors) to work on our Action Plan for our Toogoolawah State School’s two key improvement strategies over the next twelve months.
  • NAPLAN results for our key priority area of Reading indicate that 89.7% of our Year 3 students and 78.6% of our Year 5 students achieved National Minimum Standard (NMS).
  • In Year 3, 89.7% of our students achieved NMS in Grammar and Punctuation and Writing, with 86.2% achieving NMS in Spelling and Numeracy. 37.9% of our Year 3 students’ reached the upper two bands for Grammar and Punctuation.
  • In Year 5, 85.7% of our students achieved NMS in Numeracy, 71.4% in Grammar and Punctuation, 64.3% in Spelling and 50% in Writing.
  • Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) team continuing their work. Toogoolawah’s 3 school expectations;Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be a Learner. Matrix due for parent feedback from P&C.
  • Responsible Behaviour Plan – currently being reviewed and updated to align with our developing PBL processes.
  • Student Support Services team – referral processes and tracking document to be developed during Term 4.
  • True Relationships – currently taking place on Wednesdays with Harlin State School.

School & Facilities

  • Stairs outsideB block and E block have been blocked off for safety. BAS are visiting to assess and will either ‘make safe’ or repair.
  • Contractors are currently completing water leak in the female toilets.
  • Shade structure – completed during the September holidays 2017.
  • Budget into 2018 – facility maintenance and asset replacement.

Workforce

  • Miss Celeste Graham - Head of Curriculum Student Services (regionally appointed) to begin full time in week four. This has been as a result of the findings of the priority school review. Her role will include working with Jon around managing student behaviour as well as progressing key improvement strategies from the priority school review.
  • Welcome to Miss Wendy Colgrove who will be teaching our Year 4/5 class for Term 4.

Variation to School Routines

  • Year 6 camp at Currimundi, 23/10 – 25/10.
  • The Queensland Symphony Orchestra Concert, Gallery of Modern Art, 25/10.
