ADVANCE INFORMATION AND BOOKING FORM JULY 2014

A booking form accompanies this note and should be returned to Liz Kungu, by 29 August 2014. Please note that David Long will be away from 7 to 17 August and 28 August to 4 September and will not be available for communications during those periods. When applications have been received and processed, a receipt (photocopied booking form) will be sent out with further details.

Accommodation. Due to the earlier start of university autumn term it was not possible to obtain a block booking in halls of residence. A list of possible hotels, guest houses and B&B's accompanies this note and participants must make their own arrangements. If advice is required please contact Liz Kungu.

Meals. For those arriving for committee meetings at RBGE on Friday 12 September several eating places (e.g. The Orchard, Loon Fung restaurant) are available nearby at the south end of Inverleith Row. On Saturday 13 September lunch will be available at modest cost at the RBGE staff canteen, and a Conference Dinner will be held at 19.00 for which advance booking and payment is required.

Society Business Meetings, Friday 12 September. Meetings of the BBS Recording & Conservation Committee (13.30), Publications Committee (15.30), Education Committee (17.00) and Council (19.30) will take place in the Conference Room at RBGE. Note: access to RBGE access to RBGE is via the 'weekend reception' directly from Inverleith Row (underneath the flag-pole).

Symposium and AGM, Saturday 13 September. These will take place in the Main Lecture Theatre of the Herbarium & Library Building of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, Inverleith Row from 09.00 onwards. Tea/coffee (see Booking Form) will be provided in the Conference Room adjacent to the Lecture Theatre.

RBGE Herbarium and Library. Due to the tight schedule on Saturday 13 September it is not possible to arrange a tour of the library, herbarium and laboratories at RBGE. However, any BBS member wishing to view or use the herbarium and library facilities is very welcome to do so on Friday 12 September by arrangement with David Long and for laboratories contact Laura Forrest.

Exhibits and posters. Anyone wishing to display an exhibit or poster should inform David Long or Liz Kungu of their requirements. They can be set up in the Conference Room between 17.00 and 19.00 on Friday evening, or before 09.30 on Saturday morning. Viewing will take place over coffee breaks and lunch on Saturday. However, exhibits must be removed by 17.30 to allow preparations for Conference Dinner.

Field Excursion, Sunday 15 September. Leader: Dr David Chamberlain. Stout footwear and waterproofs, and a packed lunch should be brought. The excursion is planned to be to Traprain Law near East Linton in East Lothian. Details will be supplied later, but please indicate on the booking form if you plan to attend. Anyone wishing to return early to Edinburgh or Dunbar railway station please let the local secretaries know. If a hired mini-bus is needed, a charge will be made on the day.

BBS local meeting at Newcastleton, Scottish Borders, 15 to 18 September

This is a local meeting to look for Seligeria carniolica in its only (but long lost) Scottish site, and also record other sites in the area which are rich in both calcicolous and oceanic bryophytes. Please indicate on the booking form if you plan to attend. Some self-catering accommodation is available – contact Liz Kungu.
