February is a month of celebrations!February is American Heart Month, Black History Month, Respect for All, Lunar New Year, Children’s Dental Month, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, National Random Acts of Kindness Day, and the 100th Day of School, just to name a few.

It is hard to believe that we are more than halfway through the school year. Our 100th Day Celebration will be on Wednesday, February 13th. All students have been asked to create a 100th day project. Last year’s projects were incredible; we can’t wait to see how creative this year’s projects will be.

Here at PS 164, we will spend the whole month highlighting the acts of kindness, courage and compassion that students exhibit to one another. Every day we should be modeling kindness and respect to one another so our students can grow up to be caring individuals in hopes that they will continue to make our world a better place for all people. At PS 164 we will be starting a Respect for All initiative for the entire month of February. During this time, we have the opportunity to embark upon a month filled with activities that focus on respect and on celebrating kind acts free from bias, harassment and bullying. Respect for All Week is celebrated the week of February 12 -16. Our dress down days will be as follows:

Monday, 2/12- Crazy Sock Day to “Sock-it” to bullying

Tuesday, 2/13– Hat Day to put a “Lid” on bullying

Wednesday, 2/14 – Red/Pink Day to show our love for each other

Thursday, 2/15– Team Jersey Day to “Team-up” against bullying

~ Kindness Week - Make sure to say something nice to everyone you see ~

During the month of February, we will be beginning our Saturday School program for students in grades 3-5. There is still time to sign up your child if you have not done so already.

There have been several cases of a stomach virus and the flu across the school. Many students and staff have been sick over the last month. Therefore, please remember that to help limit the spread of contagious illnesses, especially during flu season, it is important to keep your children home for 24 hours after a fever subsides and/or they have stopped vomiting.

Reminder: School begins promptly at 8:20am. Any student that arrives after 8:20am must enter through the front of the building and get a late pass from the front desk. All latenesses will be reflected on your child’s attendance record.

The next PTA meeting will be on Friday, February 9th at 5:00pm. This meeting will take place in the school’s auditorium. We look forward to seeing you all there.
