About Project

PRIME (PRogramme for Improving Mental Health CarE) is a DfID supported Research Programme Consortium for integration of mental health in primary care. The purpose of PRIME is to generate world-class research evidence on the implementation and scaling up of treatment programmes for priority mental disorders in primary and maternal health care contexts in low resource settings. PRIME is being implemented in communities in Ethiopia, India, South Africa, Uganda and Nepal. In India, the programme is being implemented in Madhya Pradesh, in a collaboration involving Sangath, the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the Public Health Foundation of India. PRIME was originally approved for the period of May 2011 to April 2017 however it is extended further till April 2019. We are now in scale up phase of the programme and we are conducting various qualitative and quantitative studies in this phase.

Sangath is looking forward to appoint a Research Coordinator who can coordinate various research activities assigned to him/her along with the other responsibilities related with research uptake etc. The QI Intervention Expert will work with a Bhopal based team led by a Project Director. The team will be supervised by Dr Rahul Shidhaye, PHFI.

Job Description

Key deliverable will be –

·  Analyse prescription data as per WHO-mhGAP guidelines, and design quality improvement charters,

·  Analyse the different methods that prescription is made and managed.

·  Co-ordinate with medical officers and nurses to analyse root causes of the prescription errors.

·  Design and implement facility-specific implementation strategies,

·  Visit community health centres (CHCs) to organise educational, feedback and audit meetings with nurses, medical officers (MOs) and other key CHC staff.

·  Coach nurses, MOs and pharmacists on effective use of psychotropic medicines and patient well-being,

·  Organise/lead one-to-one and group training with all facility stakeholders on prescription protocol,

·  Discussion with key facility staff to determine their level of knowledge concerning proper prescription,

·  To monitor and evaluate the development and results of all improvements and initiatives to determine their results, then modify as needed

Desired Candidate Profile

The following criteria are essential:

·  MBBS. Candidates with qualification in the field of mental health would be given preference.

·  Experience in coordination with Community Health Centres in Madhya Pradesh.

·  Experience in Quality Improvement projects in mental health programmes.

·  Fluency in spoken and written Hindi and English

·  Ready to take up extensive filed work in remote areas of the district

Remuneration and contractual duration

Remuneration for this position is Rs. 28,000/- however actual payments will be calculated on the basis of actual days of engagement in particular month.
