Transport & Supervision
Mr Guinane will be taking the school’s 10 seater bus to the Kingston Sports Centre on Friday afternoon if any students want or need a lift for the 4:15pm games. Students needing a lift should meet Mr Guinane in the Quadrangle at 3:20pm on Friday. Parents or guardians will need to pick students up from the venue however as the bus will not be returning to school.
Paul Guinane will be in attendance all weekend however children must be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian.
Playing Tops
Tops will be given out to students tomorrow at school by Mr Guinane. A reminder that there is no additional charge for the hire of this top but if damaged or not returned we will need to charge you the replacement cost of $35. Tops need to be returned to Mrs Revell next week in Grade 4 White (Mr Guinane on Grade 5 Camp) and marked off on return or the following week to Mr Guinane. They are not to be returned to anyone else or left in Mr Guinane’s room as we need to clearly mark off all students who return their tops.
Players in Division 1 teams that make the Grand Final (and who will then be competing in the State Championships) can hold onto their top and return it after the State Championships.
The following is a list of rules provided by the Championship organisers for this weekend’s competition:
Please meet your coach at least 20 mins before the scheduled game time.
Score sheets are to be completed well before the appointed starting time to avoid delays.
A five minute warm-up will be allowed, but only iftime permits.
Teams must be ready to enter the court at the appointed starting time. Clocks will start at the scheduled start time with teams being penalised 2 points for every minute late.
Games will consist of 4 x 10 minute quarters with 1 minute between quarters and 2 minutes at half time.
Time outs: one per team, per quarter.
Substitutions must be ready to enter the court when reporting to the bench.
Draws in round robins will stand. Draws in finals will be played out.
Extra time will be played in finals to get a result. This will consist of an additional three minutes of play after a one minute break and timing rules will be as for the fourth quarter etc. Fouls will NOT be reset
The 24 second clock will not operate.
Clock stops for time outs only and not foul shots but the clock will stop for foul shots regardless of the score in the last 3 minutes of the game.
The clock will stop on every whistle and goal scored if the scores are closer than 10 points for the last 2 minutes of the game.
These clock rules may change due to the number of teams entered.
Each team will require someone to either score or run the scoreboard for each game. (Please check with the coach to see if someone is already organised and if not please offer. I promise you it is easy to learn!)
Any updates to rosters i.e. cross over games and finals, will be posted on the noticeboard at the bottom of the stairs, near the toilets.
In the event of two or more teams finishing with the same number of wins at the end of the round robin series, the standard basketball method of determining positions (as detailed in The Official Basketball Rules) will be used – i.e. only those games between the teams involved, will be taken into account.
Size 5 ball is to be used for Grade 3/4 Boys & Girlsand size 6 ball for Grade 5/6 Boys & Girls
In the case of a clash with colours the first named team will be required to wear alternative tops.
Players are required to have played in their respective regional championships to be eligible for the Tasmanian Championships.
Under no circumstances will any player be permitted to play outside their school year group.
Players are only permitted to play in one division.
Please note that whilst this is a more competitive environment than our school roster, for the enjoyment of all players, sportsmanlike behaviour is required at all times.
Also a reminder that while all players will be given game time it will not necessarily be equal and is at the coach’s discretion.
I will be contactable throughout the Championship weekend on 0417 038 793. If you have any enquires please do not hesitate to call me before or during the event.
Looking forward to an exciting, and very busy weekend.
Paul Guinane
