Primary 6Homework Guidelines

Homework will be issued over the coming year and I hope that these guidelines will give you an indication of what to expect.

I value homework very highly and appreciate your help in ensuring all homework is completed to a high standard. I would also ask that you check your child’s homework and diary regularly to help promote effective communication between school and home.

Spelling jotters will be used throughout the year. I will discuss words (meaning, spelling rules and patterns) on a Monday. The children will complete one column of words each night, at home, from Monday to Wednesday. On a Thursday night the children will have an extended exercise to do. This will vary depending on the focus for that week.

The reading homework will require pupils to read silently, read aloud and discuss story lines and characters with their parent/guardian where possible. Reading homework will be issued and we recommend reading a few pages each night. Pupils may be given associated book detective and grammar tasks.

Maths homework will be given out and pupils will usually have a week to complete it. This homework may include extra revision linked to class work, extension work or any information handling projects. On other days any class work not completed may also be sent home to be finished. Children in Primary 6 are also expected to practise number bonds such as times tables on a regular basis.

Occasionally pupils will be given French homework in order to revise vocabulary learnt within that week.

Children will be given homework related to their topic. This will include research tasks and personal projects.

If you have any questions regarding homework or any other matter please do not hesitate to contact us through the diary. We are very aware of, and grateful for, the support given with homework.

Please sign and return the tear off slip below.

Thank you.
