3rd Grade Living Museum Project
Students will select a historical person to research, write a speech, dress up as, and present at the Harrisburg Elementary Living Museum. Parents and other third grade classes will be invited to view the museum.
Step 1:
Historic Person - Choose a historical person to research and get approval from your teacher.
Step 2:
Research - Choose a 3rd grade appropriate biography to read for information about your person. You may also use magazines, articles, or Internet sources. You are required to have at least 1 biographical book to use as a research source. While you read about your historic person fill out the biography research organizer.
Step 3:
Speech – You are required to write a speech based on all of the information that you recorded on your research organizer. Remember that you will become your selected historical person so you will need to write it from your point of view. (Using words like I, me, and us) Your speech should be 1 to 2 minutes in length. You will then need to memorize as much as possible your speech.
Step 4:
Back Drop – Create a poster to highlight who you are. It should include your historical person’s name and an image where you would be found. For example: If my historical person was a scientist, I might have a laboratory image on my poster. Or if my historical person was an artist, I might have an image of a painting that I am known for. Be creative!
Step 5:
Costume – You are encouraged to dress up like your historical figure. This does not mean to go out and purchase a costume! Be creative and use what you already have.
Step 6:
Presentation – On your assigned day, you become a statue in our Living Museum. You will only come to life when your paper button is pressed. When you have been activated, you will say your speech and then return to being a statue until the next person comes along to press your button.
