“When you need support, ask for it andlet’s get connected”

This is the message of Maria Socratous, Young BPW Representative BPW Europe, one of the inspirational speakers at the Annual BPWUK Conference and AGM this weekend, 17&18th April 2015 in Edinburgh.

The three themes chosen mirror Scottish strengths and BPWUK action areas.

Isobel Carter, Owner and MD of InCarter International Ltd,from Scotland, addressedWomen in Finance. As a woman on the inside throughout the turbulence since 2008, her message is, “There are so many opportunities in finance for women now, there is everything to go for”. BPWUK member Sue Holtom, from the banking sectoralso spoke and endorsed new openings and connections for women in a restructured finance sector, including those who went through redundancy.

Fellow Scot, Margaret Anne Craig spoke for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math[STEM] BPWUK action area. At the forefront of stem cell technology, trialling a body’s ability to repair itself, is also the requirement to promote the successes. This is as much a quantum leap as the science itself. The saying, ‘success is its own reward’ appeared in the shape of a mentor who now connects closely with Margaret in getting the right message to the right people.

Nora Senior,aformer Scottish Businesswoman of the Yearand President of the British Chambers of Commerce,addressed the changing methodology for Women in the Media and connected with SépiRoshan,Founder and Managing Editor of Astute Radio, via Skype. This virtual technology link up shows the new tool kit required in establishing and maintaining your brand as well as attracting the right people to you.

The young BPW members now use power point workshop and training slides, ‘you tube’ videos and audio interviews to reflect the work being done in support of women in BPWUK, BPW Europe and BPW International. BPWUK member, Marina Leal- Freitas is setting up a programme of skills coaching with a local training hub as an example of nationalorganisation initiatives, connecting like minded women in Small and Medium Enterprises[SMEs] as well as those who feel isolated in larger companies through pilot workshops,network lunches and events that bring them together with champions and mentors.Fellow member, Emma Hunter, tweets throughout to the associated twitterati
