ICT BIO-ASIA 2016 WORKSHOP

ICT-Bio Asia 2016 is an annual two-day seminar that brings together French and Asian researchers, and representatives of partner institutions, public and private sectors. It is organized by a different French Embassy each year, in partnership with a local research institution.

The seminar has a double objective to highlight French and Asian expertise in the chosen themes and to develop ICT-BIO Asia network, facilitating meetings between potential partners in view of next calls for projects. It offers a venue for the promotion of trilateral/multilateral cooperation opportunities in the host country and in the participating research institutions.

In 2016, ICT-Bio Asia will be held in Malaysia. This programme is a joint collaboration between Academy of Sciences of Malaysia, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, UNESCO Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, the French Embassy in Malaysia, the University Malaya, and the Malaysia France University Centre.

BIO/ICT-Asia workshop offers four plenary sessions consisting of panel discussions on the four following themes:

- Biomass and Renewable Energies (biofuel, industrial palm grove, …);

- Cybersecurity (Internet of Things, cryptography, identity integrity,…);

- Green Smart Cities (wireless, home appliances, air pollution,…); and

- Health & Wellbeing (influenza, epidemiology, disordered proteins,…) .

This inaugural seminar in Malaysia will be held as follows:

ICT – Bio Asia 2016

Date:30 – 31 May 2016

Time:9.00am – 5.30pm (Day 1)

About the Academy of Sciences Malaysia

The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) came into force on 1 February 1995 and was established under the Academy of Sciences Act 1994. ASM strives to be the ‘Think Tank’ of the nation for matters related to science, technology and innovation (STI). ASM promotes and fosters the development of STI and provides a forum for the interchange of ideas among scientists, engineers and technologists. Some of its many functions include promoting national awareness, understanding and appreciation of the role of science, engineering and technology in human progress; promoting creativity among scientists, engineers and technologists; and promoting national self-reliance in the field STI.

ASM also provides advisory consultancy to the Malaysian government on STI, foster a culture of excellence in STI, and upgrades technological capability in Malaysian industries.

About the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Development / Embassy of France in Malaysia

Science & Technology Cooperation is a major component of French diplomacy. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MOFAID) has set up a number of bilateral and regional programs aimed at developing scientific cooperation between France and partner countries.

Regional programs, such Bio & ICT Asia, provides the means for teams from different countries to pool their research efforts, but also offers a useful opportunity to gain a first multilateral experience before applying to large-scale science projects grants such as European Calls for proposals. They also support the drive for regionalization by funding inter-Asian mobility, notably in the ASEAN.
