PRESS RELEASE No. 4

The Exhibition “Winton ersulting inately soonNicholas and a number of Etion in London but then on from our next Honorary President - your ‘s Trains” in Prague and London

Prague, 4 July 2011 – The outdoor exhibition of large-format photographs and documents entitled “Winton’s Trains” which was ceremonially opened on the occasion of Sir Nicholas Winton’s 102nd birthday in Prague has been running for over a month. Its London counterpart was simultaneously opened at the Liverpool Street Station, in the presence of Sir Nicholas, as well as a number of Winton’s Children. Unfortunately the following day high speed winds thought to be caused by an Islandic volcano damaged the exhibition and it had to be dismantled. Industrious negotiations towardsits re-opening are being conducted.

A picture reconstruction of the Winton Train 2009 route, personal testimony of the Czech Winton’s Children and unique documents coming from personal and world archives show the horrors of Fascist ideology and itsfatal impact on human history – all these are presented at the Winton’s Trains exhibition which has been opento the Prague public for over a month.

“So far the exhibition has been visited by over 8 000 people”, says the representative of the national cultural monument Old Burgrave Eva Sugrue and she continues: ” It makes everybody happy that a great number of schools come as the teachers consider it apart of their syllabus. Some visitors come specifically, others are random park visitors regardless their age and nationality”, adds Ms Sugrue. „We brought our students because of the actual problem of Czech and European neo-Nazism and also to show them that even a single mancan resist evil. In the case of Sir Nicholas even without expecting any reward or fame. This is a clear example of humanity, decency and modesty“, says professor Jan Teply from a high school in Prague.

British partner of the exhibition, the renowned architectural company BDP founded 50 years ago by the husband of one of the Winton’s Children - Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, is currently gathering and evaluating information on possible London sites suitable for the installation of the restored exhibition”, informs the exhibition producer Olga Menzelova who has already realized a number of successful external exhibitions. “Several sites has been pre-selected, for instance the John Madejski Garden as a part of Victoria & Albert Museum, or The Rootstein Hopkins Parade Ground which is a part of the Chelsea College of Art & Design just off the gallery Tate Britain. We are definitely going to go out of our way to make sure the restored exhibition can be re-opened for large London public till the end of September 2011”, says Ms Menzelova.

The Prague exhibition was extended until 14 August 2011 and it is opened free of charge 24hours a day. After the Czech Republic and England the exhibition is going to travel to Germany, Israel, New Zealand and The USA.
