PLANNING THE 2017 PACIFIC MINI GAMES CEREMONIES

Marti Kulich – Ceremonies Producer

Van2017 are fortunate to have a visit from Marti Kulich, one of Canada's most accomplished ceremonies and large-scale event specialists, with more than 30 years of creative vision, delivery and leadership in event production under his belt. Marti reached out to the organizing committee and volunteered to provide two weekswith Van2017, to help with some initial concepts for the upcoming Games in December with respect to the Opening, Closing and Medal Ceremonies. Marti has worked on festivals, spectaculars and medal ceremonies on dozens of events world wide and was engaged to support the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby to help coordinate Medal Ceremonies.

The philosophy that Marti is using for the planning of the Ceremonies here is simple—“Open up the cupboard doors, and see what you have to use to bring a show to life”. There is no need to spend hundreds of millionson ceremonies to make them look spectacular and make them memorable… A bolt of blue cloth can become an ocean, a field of school children can form islands in the ocean.”

Brigitte Laboukly who is the Ceremonies and Cultural Supervisor for Van2017 is taking the template that Marti is providing, and will be working to fill in the scenes with the local talent, artists, cultural that will make the Opening and Closing Ceremonies uniquely “Made in Vanuatu”, and will look fantastic on TV which is the goal to broadcast live across the country and Pacific.

The other focus of Marti’s visit is the Medal Ceremonies needed to be delivered for the Games. Making sure that 1,100 medals get handed over in accordance with the protocol of the International Federations, the right flags, anthems, and presented by sponsors, VIPS, etc is a huge logistical task.

The plans for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be announced in the next couple of months, but Van2017 can now say with good certainty—keep your calendar open for evenings of 4th December and 15th December for some great entertainment.
