ArtsKC Award Winners Honored At Annual Luncheon and Campaign Kickoff

Arts Council presented seven awards for leadership in the arts while launching the

2013 ArtsKC Fund Campaign

Kansas City Metro (January 25, 2013) — ArtsKC - The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City announced today the annual kickoff of the ArtsKC Fund, Kansas City’s united arts fund, while honoring the eight individuals and businesses selected as 2013 ArtsKC Award recipients. The 10th Annual ArtsKC Awards Luncheon and Campaign Kickoff was held at Starlight Theatre’s enclosed stage and featured performances by Victor & Penny, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, and Groovability, as well as a first-ever short film screening presenting the work of Lyn Elliot.

ArtsKC Award winners, honored for their excellence in the 2012 ArtsKC Fund Campaign included; McCown Gordon Construction, Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP, Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City, Kansas City Art Institute, Zimmer Real Estate Services, and Rees Masilionis Turley Architecture. Additionally, VML was awarded the Impact Award and Cheryl Kimmi the Virtuoso Award for their leadership in bringing arts and creativity to our community.

The program included a speech by Arts Council President and CEO, Harlan Brownlee, calling for a renewed investment by the community in the ArtsKC Fund. “During the great recession, when we could have closed the doors, we forged ahead, and the Kansas City region emerged even stronger as ‘America’s Creative Crossroads,’ receiving critical acclaim for our artistic accomplishments,” said Brownlee. “If eighty businesses can create the ArtsKC Fund we have today, imagine what it would be if a thousand businesses participated. We believe it is time to recommit ourselves, roll up our sleeves, and head back to the studio. It’s time for the ArtsKC Fund’s second act.”

The 2013 ArtsKC Fund Campaign goal is $435,000, which represents contributions raised from businesses, corporate and private foundations, individuals, and Workplace Giving Campaigns. Over the past six years, the ArtsKC Fund has granted $2.4 million to artists, arts organizations, and arts professionals. This year’s campaign will run from January 25th to June 15th.
