Creative Nature: A Feature Length HD Documentary Film

DVD Release

December 1st, 2008

Creative Nature, the HD feature-length documentaryabout glass artist William Morris, will become available for purchase as a special 2 disc DVD set on December 1st. The first disc includes the film and filmmakers’ commentary and the second disc will feature over an hour of Extras and Deleted Scenes.

This is the only existing feature length documentary film about William Morris. Director, John Andres and his crew, gained unprecedented access, giving viewers a rare and intimate glimpse into the life, work and adventurous spirit of William Morris. The film explores Morris’ beginning at the age of 19 when he arrived at Pilchuck Glass School through his surprising retirement announcement at the age of 49.

This production follows Morris in the glass blowing hot shop and out in the wilds of nature, quite literally. The film crew faced physical challenges and pushed themselves to extremes. Often putting the camera in precarious places; rock climbing up a sheer granite face, paragliding above 12,000 feet, walking through flowing lava fields and swimming underwater with sharks in Hawaii, the camerawas with Morris every step of the way. In addition to the breathtaking footage, the film weaves interviews with Bill, his team members, and his collaborators, allowingviewers to see him in a multi-dimensional way.

The film premiered at the 2008 Seattle International Film Festival and has since been selected by and selling out screenings at many other festivals. Upon seeing the film William Arnold of the Seattle Post Intelligencer noted:

“The perfectly titled “Creative Nature” is flat-out the best documentary study of a contemporary artist I’ve seen in three decades...”

And Glass Quarterlysaid:“Nothing seems ordinary about Morris in Creative Nature. Part unfettered wild man, part somber philosopher; Morris is in search of the unconventional....”

William Morris is considered a revolutionary and provocative artist as well as a master glassblower whose work reaches beyond its exceptional craftsmanship. Morris worked for Dale Chihuly as his gaffer (lead glassblower) for many years before opening his own studio. Chihuly, who appears in the film along with other contemporary artists, reaffirms the significant talent Morris brings to his work. William Morris glass sculptures are part of the permanent collections of many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Art + Design, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, as well as in many distinguished private collections.

Creative Nature was produced by Spot Creative; a New York based Production Company. Along with their team of gifted filmmakers, Spot Creative’s co-founders John Andres and Rick Edrich have produced 6 feature length films which have been shown at film festivals across the country. Spot currently has multiple films touring the festival circuit and two new documentary series in development.
