Presidents Blog

First night of 2018 was a little wet but not enough to dampen our spirits. It was a great night thanks to all our wonderful helpers. Without you club would not run. Thanks to Jayne for her efforts in getting the new laptop working after a few hiccups. Don’t you just love technology. Don’t forget that Championships are coming up on Saturday 24th March so keep the afternoon and evening free so you can join in. It is the first time we have run champs this way so hoping it will be a fun afternoon for all with some great outcomes for the kids. Congrats to the team who competed at Brisbane Sprints on the week-end with some great results.

RSL – Well the roster is now out so please help out. If you are unsure of what is required, please have a chat to Howard or any of the committee. It is very little effort for great rewards for your club. Thank you to the Gordon family for offering your help.

If you have any questions, suggestions or just want to chat, please come and see me or any of the committee members. We are there for you and welcome any ideas you may have.

Swim hard, fast and strong, but most importantly, have fun doing it…….. Craig

Coaches Report

School swimming is now well underway with lots of racing and even school swimming training on offer at some schools. This is also the time when I have to take a few deep breaths and keep calm that everyone is going to get the job done. A lot of hard work has already been done this season, and now is the time to fine tune, sharpen up and race tough. A few tips I can share is to stay hydrated as always, and to try and get some extra sleep over the next couple of months. We currently have around 13 swimmers who have qualified for the Commonwealth Games trials later this month, so their time is now. With school swimmers targeting Age Nationals, they have a little more time to get some more hard work in. As a club, our 13 and over swimmers will still be targeting the Brisbane Senior MetropolitanChampionships, with a handful of guys still gunning for some Age National times. Great to see good numbers at club with still 4 club nights remaining before our club Championship afternoon on the 24th of March.

Keep up the good work team.

Ted’s Corner

Our 2nd half of our season is on its way with our first club night for the year and a big attendance at the BSA Sprints. As we all know our swimmers are our main asset and the reports about our swimmers by Rob and Bert are well deserved and appreciated but I wouldlike to praise the parents who bring their children to training, club nights and meets. Om our first club night the following parents did timekeeping – Rita Venn, Sarah Cook, Scott McLean, James Basham, Julie Basham, Aaron, Jan-Maree, Craig, Adam, Debbie, Jenn, Augustine, Kev, and Brendan (I apologise if I have spelt names incorrectly - old age) . A big Thank you – our club nights wold not even start without you. Also a Big thank you to our Marshallers and Check Starters Christine Doss and Peta McGrory. You are all special.

In the coming weeks our swimmers will be competing in the school meets. I have counted that I will be involved in about 25 meets in Feb and March. If you are swimming in these meets please come and say hello. Have a good week.

Club History

In our club booklet there is two names both Patrons and both attended Yeronga Parks first club season in 1964 – Hazel O’Brien – until a couple of years ago attended all our trophy nights. Russell Henry – still swims at the pool and is always interested with our progress.

SLOGAN OF THE WEEK

“Pain – Prepare - Perform”

Humour Spot

A man walked into his backyard one morning and found a Gorilla in a tree. He called a Gorilla removal service and soon a man arrived with a stick, a chihuahua, a pair of handcuffs and a shotgun. “Now listen carefully” he told the homeowner. “I’m going to climb the tree with this stick till he falls to the ground. The chihuahua will then go right for his ummm sensitive area and when then Gorilla instinctively crosses his hands to protect himself you slap on the handcuffs”. “Got it” the homeowner replied. “But what’s the shotgun for?” “If I fall out of the tree before the Gorilla”, the man explained, “shoot the chihuahua”.
