Presidential Election Project

Congratulations, you have just been hired as the team of up to four, with the goal of getting your candidate elected as the next president of the United States. In order to do this, you must complete a great deal of research and use that research to gain electoral votes. Remember…in order to get elected you need to gain 270 votes in the Electoral College. For the purposes of this project, you will need to complete several tasks.

1)Research the history of elections in each state and show which party’s candidate won each state in all elections since 1980.

2)Create an electoral map showing A) states you believe you will win no matter what (to do this you need to look at how the elections have historically gone), B) the states you believe you will lose no matter what, C) the toss up states showing which states you believe are up for grabs that you want to make sure you win, and D) the toss up states that you believe you may still lose. The map should also include a chart showing why you believe you will win or lose each particular state.

3)Research the states that are “swing”/”tossups” to determine what issues are important to the people in those states. This can be done by researching several news sites and other locations on the internet. If the issues are something that your candidate can do without going against his main message, determine if you need to add it to your platform in order to win that state, without losing other states.

4)Create a “platform”. This is a list of things that you support and a list of things that you are opposed to. This should be typed on a document to turn in. This should include issues on education, drugs, immigration, military, gun control, and other major controversial issues of today.

5)Create a 30 second-1 minute commercial for your candidate.

6)Create a pamphlet for your candidate that tells who he is and what he stands for.
