The UMES Physician Assistant Department’s professional phase requires full-time enrollment. Successful completion of the program involves a minimum of five (5) semesters and two (2) sessions. The didactic year consists of three semesters: fall (1st), spring (1st), and fall (2nd). The following clinical year consists of a winter session, spring semester (2nd), a summer session, and final fall (3rd) which concludes with commencement.

During the first year in your role as a physician assistant student you will be learning and training with your classmates. During your clinical year you will be practicing medicine with a wide variety of patients under the supervision of a preceptor. Throughout that process you will be required to use traditional medical instruments and devices – the “tools of the trade.” Each student will be required to have, at their disposal, basic set of equipment and supplies.
The items identified with a single (*) are mandatory before October 5th 2009.

Equipment, bone boxes, books, educational software, journals, CD’s etc. in faculty offices or the Department Resource room are not to be removed by students unless checked out properly by the Administrative Assistant or PA Department faculty.
All Department instructional resources must be returned before the end of each semester unless otherwise stipulated. Students are responsible for the care and security of all materials loaned and may be required to pay replacement costs for lost or damaged items and/or be subject to other University penalties.
