President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Outstanding Service

LaGuardia Community College has established a prestigious award program to recognize the contributions of faculty and staff. A selection committee composed of faculty, staff and representatives from across the College is responsible for recommending up to four faculty and staff for the excellence in teaching and outstanding service awards. The awards, which consist of a certificate and a gift-check, will be presented annually at the Professional Staff Meeting in the spring.

Any faculty or staff member of LaGuardia Community College may nominate faculty or staff to be considered for the awards. To be eligible for the award, the individual must have completed two years of continuous employment at LaGuardia Community College. Members of the Faculty and Staff Recognition Committee are not eligible.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the award, the individual must have completed two years of continuous employment at LaGuardia Community College. Members of the Faculty and Staff Recognition Committee are not eligible for the award.

Criteria:

The recipients for the excellence in teaching award will be selected based on:

1.  Excellence in teaching, as demonstrated by:

a)  Innovative pedagogy of teaching and learning in their field.

b)  Creation of an environment that inspires students to learn actively, think critically and creatively, communicate with clarity and originality, and interact in diverse and complex environments.

2.  Service to students as exhibited through:

a)  Exemplary mentoring or special assistance to students.

b)  Extraordinary service to students through advising, assistance to clubs, etc.

The recipients for the outstanding service award will be selected based on professional contributions to college and community as demonstrated by:

a)  Remarkable service to the college community.

b)  Innovative leadership and/or participation in programs, groups and activities.

c)  Exceptional service to the larger community in areas related to the college mission.

Nomination Procedure:

Please send nomination packet to the President’s Office (c/o Jessica Mendoza), E-513. The nomination packet should include:

a)  Completed nomination form explaining how the faculty or staff member you are nominating meets the criteria of the award. The Chairperson or direct supervisor of the nominee’s department must sign off on the nomination form.

b)  Any supporting document (for example: letter from student(s) explaining how the faculty or staff has impacted them and in what way, etc.).

Deadline for nomination:

For the 2013 awards, nominations must be received by no later than Friday April 26th 2013.

Award information:

Up to four awards will be presented at the spring Professional Staff Meeting. Recipients will receive a certificate, a gift check and will be profiled on LaGuardia homepage as well as on the professional development webpage.
