MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF LONDON CLUBS HELD AT THE NATIONAL LIBERAL CLUB ON MONDAY 26 JUNE2017.

1.Apologies for absence were received from Athenæum, Buck’s, Chelsea Arts, Civil Service, Club Watch, Flyfishers’, Garrick, Goodenough, Kennel, Leander, Oxford & Cambridge, Reform, Royal Society of Medicine, Savile, Special Forces, Travellers, Victory Services and Hon. Chaplain Brian Lucas.

2.The minutes, which had been circulated previously were proposed, seconded and approved as a correct record of proceedings and duly signed.
MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
3.There were no matters arising.
BUSINESS RATES UPDATE
4.The Clubs suggested to be used as test cases had agreed and these were Caledonian, Special Forces, Turf, East India and Landowne. It would take between 18 to 24 months for the appeals procedures and each club would appeal separately
STAFF TEN PIN BOWLING COMPETITION 2017
5.The tenth London Clubs’ Ten Pin Bowling Tournament took place on Monday 8th May at the King Pin Suite, Bloomsbury. Thirty teams had registered with twenty-one Clubs represented. The winners were the Caledonian (3 Guys 3 Holes) in second place the Carlton Club (The King Pins) and third were the RAF (RAF 2). Special thanks were given to Eleonora Manfredi from the Caledonian for the excellent organisation and hard work especially as she only has a couple of months before her baby is due.
FUTURE BUSINESS BRIEFINGS
6. A business briefing on the General Data Protection Directive 2018 and its potential impact on responsibilities as well as cyber liability and crime had been arranged for Wednesday 12th July at 6pm at the Victory Services Club. James Nattrass from Bluefin would be speaking. There would also be an opportunity to speak to other members of their team afterwards when a drinks/snacks reception had been arranged.
It has been suggested that a briefing from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Hospitality Assured also Gambling Awareness may be of interest to members and these would be looked into for future briefings.

7.i)The Chairman advised that Sheila Seddon had taken early retirement from the Oxford & Cambridge Club due to family problems after 27 years, 13 of which she had been Chairperson for Club Watch. Sheila has been invited to the Secretaries’ Dinner in November where we can show our appreciation for all the work she has done for Club Watch. Nick Spike, Evening Duty Manager, has agreed to go on the Club Watch Committee and will be sending out the police notices.
ii) Edward Plunket was welcomed to the meeting as the new Secretary at The City of London Club.
iii) Alex Bray (East India) advised that Brooks’s won the Inter-Club Snooker Competition.
The meeting closed at 7.05pm with the Chairman thanking Simon Roberts for kindly hosting this meeting and the AGM and also allowing our Summer Reception to take place on the NLC veranda.
