The Southeast Local Schools Board of Education met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 in the high school library, 8423 Tallmadge Road, Portage County, Ravenna, Ohio. The meeting was called to order by Board President Lori Loudin-Smith.

Previous adoption: Hire Rhonda Sanderfer as a cook effective 1/30/17, contingent upon full and complete compliance with all State of Ohio and Southeast Board of Education employment criteria. She will be given a one year limited contract and placed on the proper step of the negotiated salary schedule.

Promoting Positive Pirates: The High School Band and Choir received superior ratings and qualified for state competition. Winter sports had a great season. Girls Basketball won district finals and Melinda Furr received Coach of the Year. Riley and Danielle Norquest will be playing in the All Star Basketball game in Norton. The Dohse boys represented Southeast at the state wrestling tournament. The Drama Club presented their spring play and the Music Boosters are hosting “A Night of the Arts” on March 24th. Noah Fisher received the Franklin B. Walters Scholarship. Mr. Fesemyer was interviewed regarding our Literacy Collaborative and featured on a reading website. The Southeast PTO sponsored the annual book fair.

New Business: Mary Kaley and Lori Loudin-Smith provided information on the recent meeting of the safety committee. Chief Mark Garvin of Palmyra Township, Charles J. Corcoran, Director/Chief Building Official of Portage County, and representatives from Bolo Stick and Bearacade reviewed safety concerns regarding the use of lockdown devices.

Maplewood Career Center: Mrs. Kaley reported that the Maplewood board met on March 16th, but there were no minutes available at this time.

Jeff McElfresh moved and Mary Kaley seconded the motion that the Board of Education enter into executive session to consider employment and/or compensation of a public employee or official as per ORC 121.22 No further action will be taken after the conclusion of the executive session.
