Preschool Discipline Policy

(Discipline Emphasizing First-time Obedience)

This is the procedure used in the day to day running of a classroom.

“But Samuel replied: ‘Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than fat of rams.” I Samuel 14:22

The peaceful fruit of righteousness is our goal at preschool with our discipline policy. The students must learn that when they walk in disobedience there is a consequence. Some consequences are more severe than others, and continual disobedience will not be tolerated.

Time-out is used at Paradise Valley Christian School in the preschool department. The child is placed on a chair away from the group.

Students get a fresh start each day.

Student will be asked to go to the time-out chair if he/she misbehaves.

Student will be removed from the group.

Teacher will decide when student will return to group activity.

Rule of thumb: 2 yr. old up to 0 to 2 minutes

3 yr. old up to 0 to 3 minutes

4 yr. old up to 0 to 4 minutes

Student will never be out of the sight of a teacher.

Teacher will always talk to the student about his/her behavior.

Conference with principal if needed, but usually taken care of by

teacher.

Parents are informed if behavior continues.

Preschool children are in a training mode: learning to listen and then follow the teachers directions.

Students that have shown appropriate behavior will get to pick from the treasure box according to their teacher’s reward system.

Educators are discovering that Attentiveness and Obedience are the key to successful learning. It is our goal to give simple and direct instructions that all students can learn to obey the first time. Children need to be producing good fruits in their lives. One way is by stressing Attentiveness and First-time Obedience.

Attention: Showing the worth of a person by giving full

concentration to his or her words.

I Will:

·  Look at people when they speak to me.

·  Ask questions if I do not understand.

·  Sit up straight.

·  Not draw attention to myself.

·  Keep my eyes, ears, hands, feet, and mouth from distractions.

Obedience: Cheerfully carrying out the directions and wishes of

those who are responsible for me.

I Will:

·  Obey my authorities immediately.

·  Have a cheerful attitude.

·  Complete all that I am expected to do.

·  Not complain.

·  Go the extra mile.

“I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart: he will do everything I want him to do.” Acts 13:22
