WHAT IS THE PROJECT? Juntos will offer workshops in two stages to empower community members to navigate the immigration system, protect residents from unscrupulous lawyers and immigration consultants, and will engage them on critical social issues that affect their

communities through a new Community Resource Guide. Focus will be on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) programs. Stage 1 will train 50 trainers,, Stage 2 will train larger community in weekly meetings.

THE NEED AND SELF-DEVELOPMENT NATURE OF THE PROJECT: Undocumented immigrants are being scammed for thousands of $ by corrupt lawyers, they are afraid to protect their rights for fear of deportation.

WHO INITIATED (OWNS) THE PROJECT? Members of Juntos, an immigrant group that has come together to support each other and be proactive rather than hiding in anonymity.

WHO BENEFITS DIRECTLY FROM THE PROJECT? Members of Juntos and members of the immigrant community in Philadelphia.

HOW DOES THE PROJECT SEEK REAL LONG TERM CHANGE? Poor immigrants avoid costly scams. Through education and building solidarity members become less fearful and willing to work for change for themselves.

HOW ARE THE DIRECT BENEFICIARIES INVOLVED IN THE CONTROL AND OWNERSHIP OF THE PROJECT? Ideas emerged from one or more of 5 Committees whose meeting are open to all. 50 volunteers will be trained to train others in the community.

AVAILABILITY AND USE OF MONETARY, MATERIAL, AND PEOPLE RESOURCES. Since its founding 10 years ago, Juntos has worked with Phila. Police, School Board, Sen. Smucker and Philadelphia Community College on issues of protecting immigrants & educational oportunity. Larger Juntos organization received funding from 7 organizations over the past 3 years totalling $142,000. In kind: Office space in community center and 3 computers.

EVALUATION PROCESS. In-depth personal interviews, phone interviews, metrics on number of particiapnts, number of workshops, number of people trained, number who eventually received DACA or DAPA status, number of new members of Juntos.

A balanced budget must be submitted on the back of the precis.
