28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV)

Preparing for Fall Walks as we strive to be in His Presence

It is so hard to believe that we are in Formation for the Fall Walks. This year is flying by! I am reminded that we need to “Be still, and know that I am God; …” Psalm 46:10

So many times during Formation, we notice that there is a “theme”; how the personal testimony given in the talks amazingly have the same subject over and over again. Walk 125 is no exception! “In His Presence” is prevalent, wonderfully so.

Which is why I am not so amazed to find myself reading a “classic’ by Max Lucado, Just Like Jesus. Max writes that “God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus!” Guess what the chapter was about that I read this morning before I started on this newsletter? You guessed it! Practicing to live in God’s Presence. AMAZING!

So it also seems appropriate to pass on some of Mr. Lucado’s ideas on growing familiar with God’s voice:

Give God your waking thoughts. Before you face the day, face the Father. Before you step out of bed, step into his presence…Often it’s nothing more than ‘Thank you for a night’s rest. I belong to you today.’

Give God your waiting thoughts. Spend time with him in silence. Awareness of God is a fruit of stillness before God. The mature married couple has learned the treasure of shared silence; they don’t need to fill the air with constant chatter. Just being together is sufficient.

Give God your whispering thoughts. Through the centuries Christians have learned the value of brief sentence prayers, prayers that can be whispered anywhere, in any setting…Simple phrases such as ‘Thank you, Father,’ ‘Be sovereign in this hour, O Lord,’ ‘You are my resting place, Jesus’ can turn a commute (in your car) into a

pilgrimage. You needn’t leave your office or kneel in your kitchen. Just pray where you are.

Give God your waning thoughts. At the end of the day, let your mind settle on Him. Conclude the day as you began it: talking to God. Thank Him for the good parts. Question him about the hard parts. Seek his mercy. Seek His strength. And as you close your eyes, take assurance in the promise: ‘He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep’ (Psalm 121:4, NIV). If you fall asleep as you pray, don’t worry. What better place to doze off than in the arms of your Father.”

Please continue to keep Dwayne and Sabrina in your prayers as well as they prepare for Walks 124 and 125 and Lori Ott and Derek Hensley as they prepare for Chrysalis 50! Please pray for the Pilgrims of those Walk and the Butterflies of Chrysalis. Please pray for the Teams that are working. May we all grow closer to Him as we walk in His presence. I pray that we all become Just Like Jesus.

De Colores!
