MUSE 2 Project Update - March 8, 2000

Prepared by Sharon Rankin, Systems Librarian

The implementation of the Aleph 500 LMS (Library Management System) for the

McGill Libraries will be completed for a May 1st, 2000 launch date.

The new system will be called MUSE 2.

The Library has made the successful implementation of the Aleph system its

highest priority. Information about the project is available to the McGill

Community on the Aleph Project page

The Library's Instructional Technology Librarian, Sacha Jerabek has formed a

Web Focus Group to gather commentary and suggestions from faculty in

advance of the launch date.

Members of the Web Focus Group are:

B. Haskel, Political Science

D. Dhawan, Microbiology (Graduate Student)

P. McNally, GSLIS

F. Wisse, Religious Studies

R. Funnell, Biomedical Engineering

H. Reiswig, Redpath Museum

J. Baird, Montreal Children's Hospital Library

An Aleph University Team has been formed with Library, Computing Centre,

ISR and Banner staff to complete the work needed to bring the system live.

Searches in MUSE 2 will require a web browser.

Users who would like to find out about the due dates for their library loans or

place hold requests for items from the collection, will need to identify themselves

to MUSE 2.

Users will need two pieces of information for this sign-on; their

staff or student ID number and their DAS password.

(The DAS password is a Dial-up Access Service account password from the Computing Centre

and is used for Internet connections and email from off-campus).

The Library's User Communications Work Group will begin informing the

campus about the new look of our catalogue and its new features at the end of

the month.
