“PREKMURSKA GIBANICA” BY TINE VALIČ AND “DARK SMOKE” DI ARDIT EJUPI WILL REPRESENT SLOVENIA AT THE EUROPEAN FINALS OF GELATO WORLD TOUR

  • “Prekmurska Gibanica” by Tine Valič, Caffe' Dolce Vita- Perla, Casinò & Hotel (Nova Gorica) and “Dark Smoke” of Ardit Ejupi from Sladoledarna Pingo (Šentilj)have been selected to represent SLOVENIA in the European Finals of Gelato World Tour, being held in Bologna, Italy this upcoming July 24-25, 2017.

Nova Gorica, 5 April 2017 – Gelato World Tour’s trip around the world saw Sloveniangelato chefs compete on April 5ththanks to the collaboration with Makabo, exclusive dealer of Carpigiani of Slovenia. The competition took place at the Perla, Casino & Hotel in Nova Gorica.

These two flavors will go on to represent Slovenia at the European Finals of Gelato World Tour:“Prekmurska Gibanica” by Tine Valič, Caffe' Dolce Vita- Perla, Casinò & Hotel (Nova Gorica) and “Dark Smoke” of Ardit Ejupi from Sladoledarna Pingo (Šentilj).

The flavors “Prekmurska Gibanica” and “Dark Smoke” will compete amongst the other winners from around Europe and the European Finals, scheduled for July 24-25, 2017 at the Carpigiani Gelato University campus in Anzola Emilia (Bologna), Italy. Flavor, structure and presentation are the three parameters that are judged, highlighting the choice of ingredients, the art of gelato making, and the visual impact of the gelato. The jury was composed of Mr. Tomaž Kavčič, famous Slovenian chef who is the head chef at Zemono restaurant, as well as the “face” of Lidl Slovenija, Mr. Marino Furlan, head chef at the Tiffany restaurant at the Park, Casinò & Hotel in Nova Gorica, Mr. Jaka Žnidaršič, gastroblogger and creator of the website and Mr.Marco Corradin, Italian expert in the chocolate and praline industry.

The Gelato World Tour, which is supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of Economic Development, as well as the Regione Emilia Romagna, is the first international traveling competition in search of the best flavors in the world. Gelato World Tour has visited eleven Gelato Capitals – Rome, Valencia, Melbourne, Dubai, Austin, Berlin, Rimini, Singapore, Tokyo, Chicago and Shenzhen. The Tour is directed by Carpigiani Gelato University, the world’s most renowned school for successful gelato entrepreneurs, and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, the world’s premier artisan-gelato trade show. In order to further fulfill Gelato World Tour’s mission to spread the culture of gelato throughout the world, Challenges, such as the Slovenia Challenge, are being organized around the globe!

A milk-based strawberry accompanied with a gianduja sauce. This flavor is one of the best-sellers in their shop in Tolmin.

“Diana” of Saliji Turanfrom the Slaščičarna Diana(Izola)

This flavor takes the namesake of Saliji's shop: Diana. A mascarpone gelato made with organic milk, variegated with a homemade caramel sauce and toasted pine nuts. This gelato has been presented in their shop for the last three generations!

“Dark Smoke” of Ardit Ejupi from Sladoledarna Pingo (Šentilj)

A dark chocolate gelato made with chocolate that has been smoked with cherry wood and flavored with bourbon whiskey. The flavor reminds you of the Tennessee Whiskey wood barrels.

“Žametne sanje” of Ilir Demiri from the Sladoledarna Kremko (Maribor)

A velvet dream - a Belgian cookie gelato with layers of red velvet cake. The gelato is also variegated with a nutty red sauce, with hazelnut and chocolate aromas.

“Žametna strat” of Manuela Sušl from Slaščičarna Ajdovščina (Ajdovščina)

A decadent treat that will ignite your passion! A chocolate gelato with a thick layer of toffee sauce in the middle, topped with a layer of crunchy chocolate and hazelnut praline crunch.

Tine decided to replicate a typical Slovenian dessert, Gibanica, in a gelato form! Layers of delicious ingredients make up this gelato: a ricotta gelato specked with poppy seeds, an apple sorbetto made from a local variety of apples, with walnut crunch, puff pastry pieces and pastry crust crumble mixed throughout.

“Črni Gozdiček - Black Forest” of Gregor Božičnik from Fetiche (Ljubljana)

The bottom of the pan is line with a waffle crunch blended with dark chocolate and sour cherries, followed by a layer of fior di latte gelato with an insertion of chocolate sponge cake topped with a sour cherry spread, finished with a second layer of dark chocolate gelato. The pan is intriguing decorated to resemble beautiful Slovenian forests.

A tantalizing tropical creation: a gelato made with coconut milk, with mango insertion.

“Domača Jurka” of Aljaž Rojs from the Pomaranča (Ptuj)

A refreshing grape sorbetto made with a local variety of grapes. Simply divine!
