Pre-Trip Information Packet
Updated: June 7, 2017
MISSION ENCOUNTER OVERVIEW
We put this document together that encompasses information from XPMissions along with The Wave Cambodia Team.
The XP team and Wave Leadership will lead this outreach experience. There will be times of prayer, worship, teaching, and discipleship, along with various outreaches to the local community. The main outreaches will be Vietnam and Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Teachings on compassion, justice, the prophetic, healing, intercession, and evangelism will also be imparted, both in a lecture style, as well as in a “hands-on”setting.
All team members will be asked to serve, wherever they are needed. This may include, but is not limited to physical work (in various service projects), along with other ministry related activities, which may include sharing the Gospel, leading worship, praying for the sick, prayer-walking the streets, and ministering to girls in the brothels and karaoke bars. We advise you to come with a heart to serve in whatever capacity is needed.
Should you have further questions, please contact your group leader or Brian and Jean
MINISTRY DATES
July 272017 –August 10 2017
EXPECTATIONS
GENERAL SCHEDULE FOR OUTREACH WEEKS:
First Sunday of the week: 6:00pm – 8:30pm welcome and orientation.
Monday through Sunday:8:00am – 9:00pm teaching and outreaches
We are asking everyone to come with open and flexible expectations. The culture and way of life may be different than what most are used to, so the need to be flexible and accommodating is essential.
We expect outreach participants to be in good health, as the climate and outreach activities may be physically and emotionally demanding. The schedule will be full, so come prepared with this expectation.
Phnom Penh is often dusty, dirty, and poverty is rampant. These conditions may be unfamiliar, but please come with a heart to “rough it” in a variety of areas, including: working in heat and humidity, torrential rains, dust, mud, limited variety of food choices, and limited language situations.
Love and faith must be the foundation of what we do and how we operate. Even though we believe you will be healthy and safe, we cannot guarantee anything of ourselves – not safety, not health, not transportation, or translators. In all that you do, God must be your source and guarantee. There may be times when you thought you’d be doing “ministry“, and yet you have to sit and wait, because translators aren’t available, or the transportation is broken down. There may also be times that things appear chaotic, and you might feel frustrated, but if you always maintain a heart of love and servanthood, you will overcome and bear much fruit.
Overall, you will need to maintain a positive attitude, a heart of humility and service, a desire for unity, and a willingness to be flexible. We expect that you treat each person you meet with the love of Jesus. This includes your fellow team members, team leaders, and the local Cambodian people. We also trust that you will respect their culture and country, in which you are a visitor.

Your passport expiry date must extend for six months BEYOND your expected departure date to leave Cambodia. It is a wiseto make two copies of your passport. Leave one copy with your emergency contact, and bring the second copy with you.
VISAS
You will need one Tourist Visafor your entire stay, as they are valid for 30 days each. If you are planning to stay longer than that you will need an additional Visa.

LIABILITY RELEASE FORM
Andrea may or may not require us to complete a liability release form. You will fill out a Gateway Missions trip release form which is our release of reliability and return to Brian and Jean. Those who have been to Cambodia before already have one on file.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Per our previous conversations, this is at your own discretion. People have gone in the past with no immunizations and been fine. Possibly a new tetanus would be wise.
There are no vaccinations required for entering Cambodia, but some are advisable. We recommend that each team member contact their local travel clinic to receive proper and thorough medical advice, by professionals that know what shots and/or medicationsyou may need for your situation. We are not able to give specific information to teams/individuals about which shots to get. Some immunizations that we would recommend checking into are Typhoid, Hepatitis A/B, andTuberculosis, but this list is not exhaustive, nor is it to be taken as medical advice. Your medical travel expert will have the best information for you. Dengue Fever is also known to be in the area, so travel with mosquito repellant.
MEDICAL/TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is paid by Wave Cambodia and will be provided to you. Please keep with your passport.
We strongly advise you to have adequate international medical/travel insurance in place that will cover costs, in case of illness or emergencies, while in Cambodia. This should also cover the cost of air transport home, in the case of an accident or emergency that would prolong your stay. XP Missions will not be responsible for any costs related to any accidents or health / emergency situations.
TEAM LEADERS
I have put together team leaders for this trip(other than Andrea's) for this team. This will help all of us moving forward and when we are on the ground there. A trip this size cannot be handled by one person alone. You need to have a go to person when you have questions, prayer requests, spiritual need or a battle you need someone to work it through with you.

FOOD
Rice and fish are the basic foods enjoyed by Cambodians, along with a variety of vegetable stir-fries, often involving chicken and sometimes beef. Delicious vegetable and noodle soups are also common. The Phnom Penh area is rich in culture and international influence, so you will also find a variety of options, including Western and Asian cuisines.
If you take a local Cambodian to a meal with you, please consider offering to pay for their meal, as the restaurant you are dining at may be outside of the average Cambodian’s price range. Fruit may also be purchased from street stands, but we recommend you do not eat any meat or seafood items from the local stands, as with the heat, food spoils quickly and may cause intestinal problems. Please be careful if you consume any food from the local street stands.
Only drink bottled water and use only bottled water for brushing your teeth. The hotel provides two bottles of drinking water, per day. If you require more than this, then we suggest budgeting for the purchase of water (at least $0.25 per bottle). Avoid ice cubes, as well.
We ask that our students abstain from drinking any alcoholic beverages and smoking during the outreach. We understand that everyone has different views on these issues, but we ask that you respect our wishes, as well as the local Cambodian Christian culture. We appreciate your understanding.
WHAT TO BRING
Once we settle in on arrival day, we may go thru and collect all your documentation and keep it safely stored until we need it for departure.
PAPERWORK:
Please remember to bring all your vital travel documents with you:
- Your passport
- Plane tickets ( we will hold these for you)
- E-Visa (provided for you and you will keep with your passport)
- Insurance information
- Medical/travel insurance documentation
It is also recommended that you have copies of all of these documents left with an emergency contact person that is not present on the trip, as well as extra copies of your passportand e-Visa.
Please remember that you are responsible for all the items that you bring with you.
CLOTHING:
The weather in Cambodia during this season is hot and humid. Be prepared with lots of sunscreen and electrolytes, if you are not used to this type of weather. There is also a chance of rain, so please bring an umbrella or a rain jacket and a pair of rain boots. Some of the outreaches take place in the villages where it can be very muddy. We will still go on outreach if it rains, so be prepared with boots, poncho, and rain gear if you are traveling in rainy seasons (June – November).
Cambodian culture is very modest inthe style of clothing worn. Because of this, we desire to adapt to their culture, which means that you may have to dress differently than you would at home. Items worn should be breathable and lightweight, comfortable and modest. They also value appearance much more highly than our culture, so dress should be nice, but simple. Please do not wear expensive jewelry or watches.
FOREVERYONE: Long pants, jeans and slacks are appropriate. Cotton slacks are preferred for comfort in this climate. All must be nice and neat (no rips, etc). Sports shirts and blouses, such as button up or polo style, work well, as do nice T-shirts (be careful of logo’s). Short sleeves are fine, but sleeveless is not acceptable.
MEN: We have found that low length shorts are acceptable.
FOR WOMEN: Again, neat and modest are important guidelines. In addition to pants and slacks, modest dresses and skirts are fine, as long as they at least reach to below the knee and have sleeves of some sort (not sleeveless), as shoulders should be covered. Capri pants that reach down to mid-calf can be worn anywhere.Shorts must be at least to the knee. Please avoid tight-fitting or revealing clothing of any kind (no sleeveless tops, tank tops, nor spaghetti strap tops). You can bring a swimsuit, but please have knee-length board shorts to wear over the bottoms, and a T-shirt to wear over the top.
SHOES:Pay close attention to where others have taken off their shoes and follow their lead, as it is Cambodian culture to remove shoes before going into buildings and homes.
- 1 pair sturdy walking shoes
- 1 pair of rain boots
- 1 pair of nicer shoes for meetings/ church (where appropriate)
- Sandals/flip flops - extremely useful for entering houses as it’s cultural to take off your shoes
OTHER ITEMS TO CONSIDER BRINGING:
- Lightweight jacket
- Towel and washcloth(the hotel does provide towels, but they are not accustomed to them getting dirty, so it is best to have an extra set, if needed).
- Toiletry items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, tissues, etc). These are obtainable here but may not be in the brands that you are familiar with.
- Vitamins and prescription medicines to last throughout your stay in Cambodia.
- “Wet ones,” washcloths, or anti-bacterial hand wash, for times water is unavailable.
- Insect repellant – High DEET (40%)/After bite solution
- Hat for sun protection
- Sunscreen - High SPF (sunscreen is expensive in Cambodia)
- Sunglasses
- Earplugs
- Surgical masks or bandanas (to protect from dust)
- Camera
- Flashlight and batteries (power may go out)
- Water bottle (refillable with purchased water – will save money and the environment!)
- Money belt
- Small alarm clock (there are none in the hotel room)
- Light raincoat or poncho
- Energy snacks – chocolate, energy bars, crackers and spreads (these are obtainable here but are expensive)
- Bible, journal, and a devotional reading book
- Laptop and USB drive
- Day travel bag/backpack – should be waterproof, as it can rain HARD at times
- Kleenex packs (often no toilet paper is available in restrooms)

- At least 2 sets of old clothes and shoes for helps outreaches and outreaches to the garbage dumps.
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
- Travel iron that converts to 220V
- Blow dryerthat converts to 220V
- Power converter/adapter - outlets in Cambodia use the 220V system (America uses 110V) and outlets can use European-style plugs with two prongs or American-style plugs with two prongs. Laptops often have the power converter built in.
- Pictures of your family!
MEDICAL KIT:
