Pre-test Brief for the “Be A Man”Video

Background

The YEAH Campaign is in the process of producing a video for the “Be A Man” song. The video is recorded in English, Luo, Luganda and Runyankore. However before finalising it development HCP, will conduct a pre-test exercise with representatives of the video’s target audience.

Objectives for the Pre-test

The objectives of the pre-test exercise are to:

  1. Find out if the audience understand the intended messages in the video
  2. To establish whether the audience relate to the video
  3. To establish whether there is anything that is offensive/ confusing in the video
  4. To establish if the video is attractive to audiences
  5. To collect feedback about likes, dislikes and possible suggestions for improving the video

Pre-test Methodology

Focus group discussions will be used to pre-test the video. Focus Group Discussions with male and female respondents will be conducted in the Districts of Kampala,Gulu and Mbarara. A total of 4 FGDs will be conducted in each of the districts; Males and Female aged 15 – 17, Males and Females aged 18 – 24)

Each of Focus Group Discussions will be conducted by two Research Assistants (a moderator and a note taker) literate in Luganda, Luo and Runyankore. The FGDs will contain between 8-12 respondents.

Members of the Young People Advisory Groups will also be incorporated into the Research team. For every RA normally used by HCP there will be a YAG.

Before the pre-testing the video the Research Assistants will undergo training on how to conduct the FGDs. During the training the Research Assistants will also be introduced to the YEAH campaign; its objectives, the video for pre-test and the tools to be used during the pre-test.

The YAGs stationed in Gulu and Mbarara will be briefed and oriented by the RAs recruited from Kampala.

Mobilization

The FGD respondents will be mobilized with the help of YEAH Region Lead Organizations and the YAGs. The mobilizers will also be tasked with arranging the FGD venues and electronic equipments among other duties.

Literate in English and the respective Local Leagues.

Aged 15 – 24

Out of school

Not Community Volunteers or attached to any local NGO

  4. Who is this Video meant for? Describe the person.
  5. Is there anything unclear in the Video? If so, what?
  6. Is there anything offensive in the Video? If so, what?
  7. How did the video make you feel? (E.g. Happy, challenged, sad, worried, angry, afraid) NOTE: Please note how the participants reacted___ did they laugh; shake their heads in disbelief etc?
  8. How can we improve this Video?
