Acme State University and Johnsonville County Schools Highlights -

Spring 2016-

  • Samuel Jones took two of his Health and PE classes into the field for field experience. They worked with Johnsonville County Primary and Johnsonville County Intermediate. Samuel Jones attended class with his students and assisted with instruction.
  • Elisha Doe took her Math and Science for Students with Disabilities class to Johnsonville County Elementary and provided a Math Camp on Wednesdays for 7 weeks and 1 hour each session.
  • Dr. X took her Content Literacy course to Charter School in Johnsonville County and completed a service learning opportunity where her students helped the teachers in grades 3-8 on research projects in May. They helped set up the tri-boards for display and grade presentations.

Summer 2016-

  • Dr. A and Elisha Doe met with the Johnsonville County Superintendent, Dr. Davis along with the Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Dean to discuss the partnership. We invited them to be a part of our P-20 collaborative and Advisory Council.
  • The P-20 collaborative with Different State University hosted a Co-Teaching with Teacher Candidates for mentor teachers on July 21 at ASU. 54 mentor teachers attended the workshop and 29 completed an online survey. Of the 54 teachers, 24 were Johnsonville County teachers.

Fall 2016-

  • Mrs. Doe ranged the field experience orientations to mimic a mini workshop with field experience teacher candidates. Teacher candidates attended a 4-hour session over professionalism and expectations.
  • Mrs. Cruz attended as a Johnsonville County administrator’s perspective and Mrs. Funder attended from Career Services.

Spring 2017-

  • Mr. Jones took two of his Health and PE classes into the field for field experience. They worked with Johnsonville County Primary and Johnsonville County Elementary. Mr. Jones attended class with his students and assisted in instruction.
  • Mrs. Doe took her Math and Science for Students with Disabilities class to Johnsonville County Intermediate and provided a Math Camp on Mondays and Wednesdays for 1 hour each week (two 30-minute sessions). Mrs. Doe taught her students at the school in the Academic Coaches classroom and then they went together to conduct small groups in the schools.
  • Mrs. Doe and two teachers from Johnsonville County Primary School attended the edTPA P-12 Summit at Acme State University.
  • Dr. Lurch from Johnsonville County Primary came to ASU to train the spring student teachers on the Teacher Keys Evaluation System (TKES).
  • Dr. Medium took her Content Literacy course to Charter School in Johnsonville County and completed a service learning opportunity where her students helped the teachers in grades 3-9. They assisted with field day, volunteer luncheon, and various others activities that were going on during the last days of school.

Summer 2017-

  • Mrs. Crocker collaborated with Johnsonville County Primary and Charter School to have early childhood students go to their campus to assist with Early Literacy. Students went to Charter School and worked with the Boys and Girls Club where they held a Reading Camp for the students attending school during the summer. Students, went to Johnsonville County Primary for a week to assist the pre-k/kindergarten teachers with an Early Literacy Program they were holding for students.
