JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Senior Programme Manager (maternity cover), Music for Youth

Reports to: Head of Programmes (maternity cover)

Responsible for: Freelance and temporary personnel, including technical staff and project managers

Location:Music for Youth, 3rd Floor, South Wing, Somerset House, Strand.

The job will include some UK travel where overnight stays may be necessary.

Additional info:The Music for Youth team comprises ten full time staff.

THE ROLE

As a senior member of a small team, you will play a crucial part in the delivery of our UK wide festival series and events programme for young musicians. You will work closely with the Head of Programmes to ensure the successful planning, delivery, development and evaluation of all MFY’s events and projects, with specific areas of responsibility across the season. You will support two other producers, and work in close collaboration with colleagues from the wider MFY team, as would be expected within a small organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programmes

  • Overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of the annual Regional Festival Series (c. 50 events), with a specific number of events to produce, overseeing the work of two further Producers in the Programmes team with regard to this key part of our season. You willsupport the Head of Programmes to developthe programme and regional partnerships in line with organisational priorities and strategy.
  • Responsibility for the programming, management and delivery of 8 Primary Prom concerts per year, plus associated projects eg CPD events and resources for teachers.
  • Responsibility for the development and production of all MFY educational resources and associated projects, liaising with the Head of Programmes as required.
  • As a senior member of the ProgrammesTeam, shared responsibility for the successful delivery ofMFY’s annual National Festival in Birmingham,with specific areas of responsibility commensurate with the role eg technical management, Festival Fringeprogramme.
  • As a senior member of the Programmesteam, shared responsibility for the successful delivery of three annual Prom concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, with specific areas of responsibility commensurate with the role, supporting colleagues from other teams on promotion and communications as required.
  • Responsibility for the co-ordination and management of all technical requirementsat events.
  • You will oversee MFY’s programme of small scale MFY Invitesevents, supervising the designated Producer of this strand of activity.
  • You will oversee the recruitment and management of all temporary staff for MFY events, liaising with relevant colleagues as appropriate.
  • You will support the Head of Development and Head of Programmes in the evaluation of all MFY activities, contributing to funding reports etc as necessary.

General

  • Responsibility for ensuring that all event related information is shared with the Communications Team, for dissemination via the website and all public channels.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that internal IT systems are kept up to date and meet the requirements of the Programmes Team, working with the designated Producer on the IT Team.
  • You will be required to deputise for the Head of Programmes as necessary, and will take a leading role in managing the department, co-ordinating and leading meetings as required.
  • You will support the servicing of key stakeholder relationships, working with colleagues to provide stats, reports and information as required.

Other Duties

You will be expected to undertake other such duties as are required by senior colleagues, the Chief Executive or the Board of Directors.

Safeguarding

The responsibilities of this role include making decisions affecting young people at MFY events and may involve handling young people’s contact details. Therefore the position requires a successful DBS disclosure. MFY is responsible for the safeguarding of young people involved in its activity. You will be required to help implement MFY’s safeguarding and child protection policy, adhering to its code of safe conduct.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience of education project management within a music or performing arts organisation, including designing, implementing and evaluating music education projects.
  • Experience of managing freelancers eg backstage and technical staff, project managers
  • Experience of working with young people and their teachers / leaders.
  • A good knowledge of, and interest in, a wide range of music
  • Experience and knowledge of current arts education thinking and practice, in the formal and non-formal sectors.
  • Up to date knowledge of the education system and infrastructure, such as it affects music education - including the National Curriculum, the National Plan for Music Education and Music Education Hubs as well as the wider music education landscape.
  • Experience of cross sector partnership working in the arts.
  • Experience of managing professional musicians and other artists

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Terms and Conditions

Contract Full-time, maternity cover

Salary circa £26-27,000depending on experience.
