Pre-AP English 9

Research Paper Guidelines

This paper will incorporate the analysis skills you used in a previous lesson (Landscape with the Fall of Icarus-Comparing Visual and Written Texts) and elements of research. You will analyze another piece of art and another poem and will add informational and research-based paragraphs on the author and the artist in your paper. If you find information that is relevant to the poem or the artwork, you may include it; however, the majority of the analysis should be your own.

The Alabama Course of Study for ninth grade is very specific in the emphasis on the process of writing a research paper:

  • Demonstrate paraphrasing, quoting, and summarizing of primary and secondary sources and various methods of note taking
  • Use the research process to locate, select, retrieve, evaluate, and organize information to support a thesis on a topic
  • Managing information using available technology
  • Using paraphrasing and documentation of sources to avoid plagiarism

Writing a research paper is a demanding task but staying organized, meeting deadlines, and working to the highest standards will aid you greatly. I have tremendous confidence in your abilities!
